Lichen Pikmin, also known as Black Pikmin, are a species of Pikmin introduced in Pikmin 2... Again?. They are Pikmin infected by the Gloomshroom, being black Pikmin with cyan glowing eyes, they resemble the White Pikmin, but the Lichen Pikmin leave a aesthetical trail of wither on the ground as it walks and has pupils though not so easily visible. The Lichen Pikmin have a below-average digging speed and low throw distance, alongside the fact they give a low damage, however, as they mature they get more damage to get to average and on the flower maturity to be the same as the Red Pikmin, and if the ultra-spicy spray is used on them, the Lichen Pikmin get the same damage as the Purple Pikmin. They are sneaky and can so be unseen in the shadows, and will get out of the view of the predators when carrying a object. And being resistant to the effects of wither, they are great against enemies that use wither.
The Lichen Pikmin were actually, alongside wither, heavily inspired by the Black Pikmin made by Toonmnoh on YouTube.

Causing them to turn into the Lichen Pikmin, despite their name they have nothing to do with lichen. Anyways, Lichen Pikmin are resistant to wither, a mysterious, gray gas that has a horrible effect on Pikmin. And they can hide in the shadows unseen. And i still can't understand why Louie is still trying to eat those wither-using creatures even if he said lots times they taste bad.”

Lichen Pikmin are the seventh type of Pikmin discovered in Pikmin Forever. They are found close to the chosen landing site of whichever area is visited the day after collecting the Hocotate ship's radar. They are smaller but proportionally taller than the average Pikmin, and they are completely covered in an extremely soft green moss-like fur; Captain Olimar wonders if Lichen Pikmin are simply made of lichen without any skeletal support. Lichen Pikmin have a Lichen Onion and their identifying color is green. They have three maturity stages, reflected in the size and color saturation of their lichen tops: "leaf" is the smallest and least saturated, and "flower" is the largest and most orange.
Lichen Pikmin are extremophiles; they can survive in intense conditions. They are the only type of Pikmin immune to pollutants, a hazard that can not be removed, and only Lichen Pikmin can carry ice. They can slowly float across water bodies they enter, and if they enter murky water, they will clear up a small radius around them. Their attack is weaker than most types, but they attack the fastest of all types of Pikmin. Their attacks can also slowly break down mossy rock or ice, thus making them necessary for obstacles such as the cobblestone wall or Frostilume. They are convenient for reinforced walls when bomb rocks are not present, but it takes even one hundred Lichen Pikmin a while to break reinforced walls down.
