The Hairy Rootbluster is a tall plant that has a stalk covered in cottony spores, which are only loosely attached and are easily blown around by passing winds. The spores scattered from it send Pikmin into a panic for a short while upon contact, and more annoyingly, the windblown spores often intersect with the flying height of Winged Pikmin and will stick to their wings, sending them to the ground and immobilizing them until whistled to safety. This also prevents Winged Pikmin from fighting the Hairy Rootbluster, requiring other Pikmin types to be used to attack the spore-free base of the plant. Upon losing all its health, the Hairy Rootbluster retracts its spore stalk and becomes dormant and harmless for a few days.
