The Deceptive Dweevil is a species of dweevil that conceals itself under objects, waiting for Pikmin to look away so that it may sneak up and crush them.

Attacks Crushes Pikmin

The Deceptive Dweevil is appears in Pikmin: Dusk and Dawn as a larger, black-and-dark-gray member of the dweevil family. It has four shining white eyes, and its chubby body resembles a pebble. It has four spindly legs that allow it to dash along the ground at incredible speeds. It is often difficult to see at first glance, due to it using terrain objects such as rocks or small trees as a cover for its body. On some rare occasions, it even hides under treasure. It lays low to the ground when dormant, almost invisible. When leaders and Pikmin look away, it slowly gets closer, creeping toward them. Once close enough, it springs up in an attempt to crush them with its cover. This can be avoided using the Dodge Whistle. It has a much larger, boss variant called the Deceptive Long Legs.

Its attack varies with its disguise, with some examples:

  • Rocks: it springs up, hurling the rock into the air, and scurries away to avoid impact. The rock's shadow acts as an indicator of where it will land and should be avoided.
  • Trees: it lifts its body, and lets the tree fall to the ground, crushing any Pikmin under it. Its shadow acts as an indicator.
  • Treasure: depending on the width and length of the treasure, it will use it like either of the two aforementioned objects.

The best way to defeat it would be to attack it when it drops its object after an attack, as it scurries around for a moment before scuttling back under its disguise. It is somewhat hard to hit due to its high speeds and erratic movements.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Deceptive Dweevil / Mandarachnia terrarale / Dweevil family. It's a wonder how it manages to support such a large weight on its head without being crushed. Perhaps I should look into it more.

Louie's notes

Boil for 30 minutes in water, then take it out once it has become a dark blue color, crack its limbs, and serve the meat that's inside of its tough exterior. Soy sauce is great as a dip.

Chacho's notes

Its beautiful, shiny skin could be used for millions of things. I can't wait to get my hands on this fine specimen.
