If one of these creatures spots its prey, it will pursue them at high speeds, not stopping until it kills them or is killed. To defeat the Black Bulborb with as little casualties as possible, amass an army of as many [[Purple Pikmin]] as possible and fill the remainder with [[Red Pikmin]]. Seek high ground, as it will allow the Black Bulborb to be attacked without it reaching the [[leader]] there for a while. However, the Black Bulborb is notorious for its ability to maneuver around obstacles to reach its prey. If any high ground cannot be found, engaging the enemy is still possible but not recommended. Rain Purple Pikmin down upon the Black Bulborb, causing it to be temporarily stunned, only stopping when it is dead. If no Purple Pikmin are available, throw Red Pikmin instead. This enemy appears in caves only and was initially going to appear above ground, but this was scrapped. Its appearance is altered to be a normal bulborb with a black back and white spots. It is also reliably larger than a normal Bulborb. The following caves show where this enemy lives: sublevel three in Bulbax Database, as a mid-boss, where it falls from the cave ceiling; sublevel five in the Shadows of the Twenty Floors, in which a few appear in crannies; and sublevel two in Dark Dash, exclusive to Cave Time Attack, appearing in dark areas as well as crannies. Two also appear in the center of Dark Dash, in which they must be defeated as they have the key to proceed. | |||

The Black Bulborb is a rare form of Grub-dog, and as of yet has only been seen in the game Pikmin: Louie's Adventure.
