The Warbling Phosbat is a species of aerodentia appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It appears as a larger version of the Phosbat Nymph, roughly the size of a Withering Blowhog. The Warbling Phosbat also has red fur, glowing blue eyes, and a noticeably wrinkly neck, which signifies its signature ability. This particular Phosbat patrols its entire territory, like the Spotty Bulbear, rather than linger around the Phosbat pod it was born from as its smaller brethren do. It acts as a guard of sorts for its nest, using its glowing blue eyes to see better than most underground critters, with the range of the light indicating the range of its vision. When it sees an intruder, such as a leader or Pikmin, it will inflate its throat, revealing a throat sack, and release a powerful screaming call. This call has several effects on things in its range. One is causing any purple-capped Bloatstools to inflate, blocking corridors and therefore restricting movement in the caves the two enemies are found in. Another is inciting all Phosbats in the local area to swarm to the area the call was made in to attack any threats. However, the most dangerous is waking up several powerful enemies that live coexist with the Phosbats, such as the Emperor Bulblax, Burrowing Snagret, and of course, the Vehemoth Phosbat, attracting them all to the local area. The Warbling Phosbat responsible for the call leads these powerful enemies directly to the threat with its signature cry alone and uses its fangs to eat any Pikmin in its way. The bosses will only vacate the premises after a substantial period of time since the Warbling Phosbat was slain.

The best way to dispose of a Warbling Phosbat is to attack it from behind while it isn't paying attention, as indicated by the light that shines from its eyes. Because of its durability, many Pikmin are needed to kill it before it has a chance to cry out. Feeding it Germ Pikmin is ill-advised because all it will do is make a scene, as the Phosbat is immune to its acid. However, like all Phosbats, shining light is sometimes all that's needed to take this creature out. When strong light is shone into the eyes of this creature, it permanently loses its eyesight and becomes blind, and most strikingly, the calls it makes the enemies it summons attack it rather than the Pikmin. It is rare to find light strong enough for this to occur in environments infested by Warbling Phosbats, so the best course of action is to either kill it quickly or just stealthily avoid it.

Notes

Ivy's journal

Ugh, these guys were the boogeymen back in my childhood, but I am a brave white leafling and I will tell you this, it's still quite creepy. The Warbling Phosbat acts like a sentry to the Phosbat hive, having rather oddly keen eyesight for a subterranean creature. When the creature sees a potential threat, it will inflate its throat sack before belting out a bloodcurdling screech that alerts other Phosbats to the threat's location. This has also led to a symbiotic relationship with several nocturnal predators, which, in exchange for extra food, offer their own protection services to the Phosbat nest. It's almost like one of those mafia movies Magdelene seems to like.

Leni's recipe book

Warblers are quite tricky creatures to cut. The loins and breast are too gamey to eat, but the eyes and organs are surprisingly rich and tangy when pickled in a salted brine. The issue is finding someone willing to eat it, considering Ivy tosses the entire jar after eating one bite of this dish, it may be for a specific palate.
