The Stubblefly is a mature species of whiskerpillar appearing in Pikmin Evolution, being the adult form of the Ravenous Whiskerpillar. It resembles a hybrid between a monarch butterfly and a dragonfly, with the wings of the former and the body of the latter, all sharing the younger form's red-and-orange color scheme. These creatures are a regular find in the swamplands they call home, often resting on some nearby foxtails or horsetails. However, that belies the true nature of such lightning-fast predators, as they will often quickly grab any small creature in their line of sight, from something as small as a Golden Ujadani to something as big as a Dwarf Orange Bulborb, before slurping up the contents of their bodies with their retractable proboscis. The film covering their bodies allows them to survive in both water and acid, making them stealthy foes in any environment. Like Shearfleas and Puckering Blinnows, they don't immediately eat Pikmin, rather, they dart across the sky and dash across the ground, picking up to three Pikmin with each dash. Afterward, it will try to fly to someplace secure where it can eat each Pikmin one at a time undisturbed. The sheer speed of a Stubblefly's movements makes it hard to dodge. Despite this, the Stubblefly lacks good maneuverability while flying at top speed, and as such, it can not hunt mobile prey as effectively as it can slower prey, as it stalls its attack to correct its aim.

The Stubblefly has surprisingly little health for its size, so taking it down shouldn't be too tricky with proper evasion tactics. However, the creature's aerodynamic frame constantly scatters Pikmin around as it flops on the ground helplessly after being knocked out of the air, necessitating using a fair number of Pikmin against it. If a Stubblefly is being particularly troublesome and forfeiting rewards is of no concern, toss an icy cyan syrup in the direction of its charge. While the protective film covering the creature slows the syrup's effects, the insect will freeze solid upon dashing and shatter to pieces upon hitting the ground with no recoverable remains. Another effective strategy is to lure it into dashing into the surface of a body of water or acid, as it will flop around on top of it, leaving it vulnerable to each fluid's respective Pikmin type. Overall, the Stubblefly is a rather dangerous foe, but one with a crippling weakness to exploit as well.
