Attacks Spits magnetic boulders

The Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larva appears in Pikmin 2: New Year. It is a member of the lithopod family and a relative of the Decorated Cannon Larva. It wanders about its territory on dry land, stopping occasionally to emit honking noises and turn in place to change its walking direction. When Pikmin and leaders approach it, an Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larva will turn to face them before inhaling and then launching a magnetic boulder from its mouth at them. The magnetic boulders it creates roll after nearby leaders, crushing anything in their path until they hit a solid obstacle such as a wall or enemy or roll into a pit. Unlike the Garish Cannon Beetle Larva, it does not burrow into the ground.

As their name would suggest, Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larvae strongly resemble orange-colored Decorated Cannon Beetle Larvae. On the front of their body is a brown snout with a featureless, glowing, yellow eye on either side and a yellow interior. Their long, segmented body is primarily orange with a yellow underside. The body's foremost segment features, in addition to the creature's face, its thick, yellow legs underneath, and its pale blowhole on top. Its subsequent body segments bear a single spike on the top of each one, and on each side of each segment is a teal spot just above its underside.

Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larvae are made especially dangerous because of their boulders, which home in on leaders. The optimal strategy in defeating an Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larva would be to swarm it with a large group of Pikmin immediately after it fires a boulder, keeping a watchful eye on the boulder to ensure it doesn't crush any Pikmin. Be sure to whistle Pikmin off of the creature as it prepares to buck them off, which is especially important if it is facing a pit, to prevent unnecessary Pikmin casualties. Alternatively, because they are magnetic and therefore attracted to leaders, an Orange Decorated Cannon Beetle Larva's boulders can be led into the creature that fired them, although using them against nearby enemies before doing so may prove valuable.
