The Luminous Joustmite is a winged burrow-nit appearing in Pikmin: The Planet of Hope as the first boss. It is first fought at the Radiant River and later again in the Great Gauntlet. Its primary attack is thrusting its proboscis forward to skewer any Pikmin directly in front of it, with some variations it randomly chooses to execute. If it stabs a wall, it may swing it counterclockwise, knocking down and scattering Pikmin; if it skewers a Pikmin, it may forcefully spit it out at leaders and Pikmin, hurting the former and killing the latter on impact; lastly, it may burrow into the ground and attempt to impale Pikmin from below. Its secondary attack is to crush Pikmin, which it accomplishes by taking to the air, attempting to impale Pikmin from there, then zipping to the ground to try to massacre the entire squad. Because of its nature, it can be quite predictable, and Rock Pikmin are most effective against it due to their resistances. Despite this, however, charging Pikmin at it is ineffective and lethal, even to Rock Pikmin, as the creature will thrust two large razors from slots in its shell to kill them. There is no way to save Pikmin caught by any of the boss's attacks apart from making it flinch.
