Let’s try and crash this cornea into a wall! – The ship, upon discovering the Crushoculus

The Crushoculus is a species of eyebulb in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. At first glance, they resemble large chunks of rock that rest on cave ceilings, matching the color and texture of the terrain. However, it will inevitably reveal its singular eye with white sclera and yellow pupil. When the rock armor is broken, the final result is a large, somewhat flat eyeball with two purple, crustacean-like legs.

The Crushoculus will remain stationary with its eye closed. Once Pikmin approach or are beneath the eyebulb, the creature will open its eye and begin to shake, before falling to the ground. The Crushoculus will then begin to slowly roll towards the leaders and Pikmin due to its spherical formation. Its weight allows it to crush any Pikmin or leaders caught in its path. However, its rocky coating will break immediately upon impacting a wall or other surface that is a part of the terrain, and when this happens, the vulnerable form of the Crushoculus will begin to flee.

The Crushoculus is fairly easy to take out, as causing it to run into a wall can cause it to break. Using explosives like Bomb Pikmin can also break its rock armor. Weighted Pikmin and Rock Pikmin are immune to the crushing force of the eyebulb.

In Overlord mode, the Crushoculus can uproot itself and move to a more strategic location. They also roll faster and can turn corners more easily.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Crushoculi can be identified by closely examining large clumps of stone on a cave ceiling.

Olimar's notes

The Crushoculus tends to remain on the ceilings of caves to avoid predation, along with their camouflage which acts as protection. You’d think they take all of these precautions because they’re hunted constantly, but in fact, most eyebulbs are at the rock bottom of the food chain and are rarely consumed by predators. This particular species merely feeds off of small plants and minerals at night when the cave inhabitants are resting.

Louie's notes

The minerals this creature consumes make it a much healthier option for the average culinary consumer. Remove the rock, and slice into thin strips. Sear on pan and add salt with lemon for a light zing. Dip in vinegar for a better taste.

President’s notes

I managed to make this buffoon run into another enemy and kill it! Ha! You’ll never be able to outsmart me, you eye dolts!

Overlord’s thoughts

Camouflage, armor, in a cave on the top of a ceiling? You’d think this guy is hiding from me or something...! At least, I don’t think he is. I’m not a scary guy.
