The Clever Clover is a species of chrysanthemum appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It shares the same general design as the Creeping Chrysanthemum's Pikmin 4 incarnation, but it has an emerald green body and, as the name suggests, has a patch of clovers covering it. Approximately twenty clovers are present on the head of the Clever Clover, but four of them bear the eyes of the creature. They share the exact same attacking behavior as their relative, hiding in the ground, disguising themselves as a plant, and rising from the ground when something such as a Pikmin or leaders comes near, attacking with its long, sticky tongue. What makes the Clever Clover so dangerous is that it constantly scatters seeds from the top of its head. The seeds are propelled by clovers acting as their propellers, drifting in the air towards captains, just high enough above them that they are out of reach from most Pikmin throws. After a while, the clovers will detach from their seeds, which shatter into a drop of acidic sludge upon landing. This sludge will become increasingly more problematic the more seeds are scattered, eventually making the Clever Clover almost impossible to approach in most cases.
Because of the creature's seeds, the best Pikmin type to attack it with is Germ Pikmin, which are immune to the toxic sludge they release. However, their low attack power and the Clever Clover's high vitality means defeating it can be a challenge, especially since the Clever Clover is also immune to the acidic taste of the Germ Pikmin as well as the poisonous purple syrup. Thus, the optimal course of action is to remove the clovers from the Clever Clover's body, as without them, it can't produce its signature seeds. This can be done in two ways. One is to feed it an icy cyan syrup to freeze it and its clovers, solidifying the clovers into a helmet and toppling the creature over due to their combined weight, the frozen clovers shattering on impact with the ground. The other is much simpler: set it ablaze with a fiery red syrup to burn it and incinerate its clovers. Without its clovers, the Clever Clover is as threatening as a standard Creeping Chrysanthemum, and therefore the same strategies can be used to take it down for good. Overall, it is a dangerous enemy with a crippling weakness that causes it to lose its biggest advantage.
