The Boomburst Bulborb is a species of grub-dog appearing in Pikmin Evolution and is the adult form of the Amp Bulbling. It has a solid blue coloration, and rather than have a spotted hide, the Boomburst Bulborb has folds of skin that pulsates as air flows between them. The Boomburst Bulborb is a lot like the Spotty Bulbear in terms of behavior in that it is always active and is usually accompanied by its offspring. The Boomburst Bulborb has a quite strange walking pattern, as rather than walking normally, the Boomburst Bulborb strides, taking a step after making what seems to be a booming sound from its mouth, almost as if it's moving to the beat of its own apparent beatboxing. Another of its quirks is exhibited when in the vicinity of an active Radio Beetle, as its rhythmic beats cause the Boomburst Bulborb to not only walk faster but also thrash its head as if headbanging to the beat of some unknown song the Radio Beetle making.
This musical style even dominates the attacks of the beast; befitting its name, the Boomburst Bulborb uses sound during combat. When in the vicinity of Pikmin, the Boomburst Bulborb will begin its assault by opening its mouth and inhaling a large amount of air, and anything pulled in the vacuum will be eaten. Afterward, the Boomburst Bulborb will unleash a supersonic scream, an attack that not only causes panic in Pikmin but also pushes anything in its range back greatly, often into an abyss. The sound is so intense that any Pikmin caught in it will also be deflowered and the effects of strength and shield powder will be neutralized. Any Amp Bulblings present with the Boomburst Bulborb only intensify its attacks.
Despite the threat it and its followers pose, however, the Boomburst Bulborb has one major weakness, electricity, which interrupts the Bulborb's internal rhythm and disconcerts it so much that its beatboxing loses all rhythm and cohesion. The most effective way of accomplishing this is to cause the Bulborb to inhale a yellow syrup, after which the beast will swallow it and it will take effect. Any Pikmin type can attack it, though the heavy Alloy Pikmin are recommended due to their resistance to strong winds. Overall, it is quite a challenging member of the grub-dog family and a deadly foe if mishandled.
