The Venowraith has a strategy not unlike the Waterwraith, being absent on a given sublevel until five minutes have passed. After those five minutes, it will spawn in a specific place of the sublevel, buried underground. Approaching the spot it is hidden will cause one of its arms to burst out of the ground and pull the rest of its body out. The Venowraith will then let out a terrifying screech and pursue the squad with a zombie-like gait. In this state, it is slow, but has many attacks that can prove dangerous to the uninitiated. One of these attacks involves it suddenly running with its arms behind it, eventually slicing with its claws in an X-shape if it reaches a dead end or Pikmin. It can also bring forth a massive ball of venom and then send it towards Pikmin. Bar White Pikmin, Pikmin who are caught in this ball of venom will be relased and begin suffering from the hazard when this ball hits a wall and breaks. These attacks are made more difficult to dodge due to the cave's mazelike structure. The Venowraith will continue its pursuit unless the squad procedes to the next sublevel, and its attacks actively harm other enemies in its wake.

The Venowraith is an important creature Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, being the focus of the first half of the game's story mode. It resembles the thorax area of a humanoid figure, with no visible head or abdominal area. Its skin resembles the exoskeleton of an Arizona bark scorpion, a motif that the rest of its design runs with. It has long, segmented arms and comparatively stout legs, the nails of both resemble the stingers of a real scorpion. Furthermore, it has a stinging tail not unlike a real scorpion. There is a massive hole where its neck should be, leading into its hollow insides. Within its body is a repository of pinkish, bubbly venom that it seems to have psychic control over. This is evident in that a blob of its venom slings the three protagonists from Creature's Quay to the Thicket of Nourishment very early in the game, and that blobs of its venom can be seen floating in the skies of the Nomadic Butte prior to the beast's defeat. The venom is also capable of crystalizing very quickly, and seemingly on demand.

The Venowraith's presence is first evident very early in the game. When spelunking in Humpback Heights, Olimar and Louie briefly get seperated on the second sublevel. Louie lands in a puddle of a seemingly inconspicuous liquid, unbeknownst to him is that it is actually the Venowraith's venom. Louie samples it out of curiosity. After leaving the cave, Louie shows this liquid off to Olimar, only for it to fester intensely. Eventually, the venom completely envelopes Olimar, Louie, and the Hocotate ship's research pod and slings them all to the Thicket of Nourishment, whilst taking the Hocotate ship's main body for itself. Without a vessel to get home, the trio assemble a floating base out of a log section called the Lumberlift, and attempt to find a way to get back to Hocotate.

After successfully contacting The President, an escape vessel similar to the one used to return to the planet in Olimar's Comeback is sent to the planet, supposedly landing in the Nomadic Butte. Distressingly, massive, purple crystals smother some of the landscape in this region, and conspicuous balls of venom float in the skies above them. After some exploring, and the discovery of White Pikmin, the squad sees the escape vessel in a state of disrepair, with massive purple crystals growing out of its cockpit area. Next to it is a cave entrance leading into the Primordial Pit, which, according to the Research Pod's area scanners, contains the Hocotate ship's main body. The crew enter the cave to find it, unaware that it is the habitat of the Venowraith itself.

Bar White Pikmin, Pikmin who are caught in this ball of venom will be released and begin suffering from the hazard when this ball hits a wall and breaks. These attacks are made more difficult to dodge due to the cave's mazelike structure. The Venowraith will continue its pursuit unless the squad procedes to the next sublevel, and its attacks actively harm other enemies in its wake.

The Venowraith can be fought directly on the final sublevel of Primordial Pit. In this battle, it retains its previous attacks, and also gets new ones. It can summon three small balls of venom and throw them into the air, which splatter once they hit the ground. It can also create a ball of poison that fires small poison bullets in a steady stream until the ball is completely used up. Its final attack involves stabbing Pikmin behind it with its tail. To defeat the Venowraith, bomb rocks must be used. They will sometimes be seen dangling from the ceiling by strands of sticky venom. White Pikmin must attack these strands while the Venowraith is directly under the bomb rock, and it will fall into the hole in its body when the strand snaps. The bomb rock will detonate within the Venowraith, doing damage and causing venom to spray everywhere from its hole. As it gets more damaged, it can use more attacks. These include summoning three nodules of crystallized venom and slamming them into the ground. It can also encase these nodules into a giant blob of venom, and sling them at the squad. Its giant venom ball attack also gains the ability to rebound off of walls multiple times before breaking, and it can summon temporary crystal walls out of its own venom that Rock Pikmin could break, but can also crumble on their own or be destroyed by the Venowraith itself. If all White Pikmin are killed mid-fight, an Ivory Candypop Bud will drop into the arena for further propagation.

When defeated, the Venowraith will begin intensely spurting venom from its hole, eventually smothering itself inside of it. The venom then begins crystallizing while it is still inside of it, and it reaches out to Olimar in an attempt to attack him or his allies one last time, before its arm goes limp and dangles lifelessly outside of the crystal. This becomes a pernament part of the arena, and the Venowraith can no longer be interacted with. After the battle, the squad enter a chamber where they find the Hocotate ship's central body encased in a purple orb of crystal venom. However, midway through breaking it, the Terrorforming Geboa suddenly bursts through a wall. After a brief scuffle, the large serpent steals the orb and leaves through the hole it came from, which is too high for Olimar or Louie to reach. As such, the second half of the game involves chasing it down instead. The Venowraith is the only non-final boss to not be rematched in Gladiator's Gulch.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This isn't the first of its type that I discovered; strangely supernatural entites are weirdly common on this planet. However, whereas most of the others can be excused as hallucinations or even ghosts, this creatures appears to be entirely physical. This is not unlike a certain... other creature, that I had the misfortune of being aquainted with on a previous expedition, but never mind that. This horrifying monster seems to have a strange level of psychic control over the toxic substance within its hollow, almost husk-like body. It is unknown if it's manipulating the air around it, or has some sort of telpathic power unknown to science. It can send blobs of venom out to scout for objects of interest or potential prey, and they'll bring them back eventually. Interesting, its range for this power seems to span the entire planet, or at least a very large area around it, implying it may be a supernatural power.

I would love to write more, but my palms are starting to sweat. I think I need a moment to breathe, this is drumming up some horrible memories...

Louie's notes

Its interior is all poison, its exterior has the texture of a stale saltine cracker. Maybe this creature really hates us...
