The Thorny Devil is the 3rd major boss in Pikmin 4 (Wii U). It is located in the Vast Plains. Any pikmin can kill it. However, Rock Pikmin are recommended. It resembles a real species of lizard sharing the same name. It has a sleek, lizard-like body covered with thorns. It has 4 eyes and a long tongue.

The Thorny Devil is the largest specimen of sauridian. While most sauridians tend to attack their prey by surprise, this creature goes straight to attacking. It does this because of its spiky covering and leathery skin. Unlike other sauridians, the Thorny Devil has a long tongue, like the whiptongue bulborb. This suggests that the creature is also capable of ranged attacks. It even has the ability to shoot spikes from its covering, and each spike grows back with ease. the creature seems to have been successful because of this defense mechanism.

Basic Strategy

Its tail is its weak point. Tossing pikmin at its tail is the main key to defeating this boss. When it starts to roll, make it smash into a wall, exposing its weak belly. Doing this will result into an easy victory.

Expert Strategy Note: This strategy is advised for experienced players only. A much quicker way to defeat the boss is to attack it while it is shooting spikes. It is not covered in spikes while shooting, so throw pikmin at its body. However, your pikmin are in danger of being stabbed.
