The Tan Pikmin is the second-to-last obtained in Pikmin:Redemption. After finding and jumping into the Umber Candypop Bud, located somewhere in The Oasis, you gain the following abilities:

Abilities

Tan Pikmin can the swirling black hole of a quicksand pit into solid ground for other pikmin to cross. They can also predict sandstorms happening in the desert from the air, just look at the area select screen. If there is a swirling tornado over the The Oasis area then a sandstorm is there. Sandstorms are dangerous to all but a Tan Pikmin, who can withstand the winds thick with sand because of its hard skin.

-Tan Pikmin are tan colored(obviously) with a slight tint of brown. They have small claws at the end of their fingers which they use to turn quicksand into sand. The skin of a Tan Pikmin is rough with no open wounds or mangeled skin. Their skin is so rough because of  what they have to go into to get food od drink. That rough skin is what allows them to walk through sandstorms. The life cycle of the plant at the top of its head is Leaf->Thorny Bud-> Cactus.
