The Skullshell Crusteroid is a species of crustelore appearing in Pikmin Evolution as a boss. It is a creature of extremes, having a giant black and white main body resembling a skull, hence the name, and deep red eyes, but having short legs and claws for a creature of its size. At first it appears to have too standard of behavior for a creature who holds the title of boss enemy, simply using its claws to grab any Pikmin in front of it while stomping on anyone under its body, crushing all non-Alloy Pikmin in its way. Rather its how it performs these actions that makes it dangerous, as the Skullshell Crusteroid has the species ability to increase the length of its claws and legs with bones scattered around its territory, this not only increases the range and strength of the claws but also increases the height of the Crusteroid, making it out of reach. It also makes the legs capable of skewering any Pikmin that gets under its stomps, similar to a toothpick going through an olive. These factors when combined with how easy it is to go under the creature makes the creature much more deadly than it appears at first, especially with that crushing attack. Defeating the Skullshell Crusteroid is no easy feat, since you need to have your Pikmin swarm the creature's six legs and attempt to shatter each and every one of them, all the while dodging the frontal claws of the Crusteroid and recalling your Pikmin to avoid the crushing attack. When one leg is destroyed the Skullshell Crusteroid quickly reconfigures its other legs to maintain balance, meaning that for each leg destroyed it loses height making the main body easier to hit, however the Crusteroid becomes more agile due to having less bones to move when walking. Only by destroying every leg does the Crusteroid fall and reveal a soft underbelly to attack for extra damage, but after a while the Skullshell will shake any attackers off and rebuild all six of its legs, meaning you need to take them down once again to reveal its weakpoint. There are many ways to destroy the legs of the Crusteroid, aside from the aforementioned swarming the legs are also susceptible to acid, as the substance will melt the legs and make them weaker. Explosions can also break the legs instantly, but acid tends to be more effective as it can destroy the bones rather than have the explosion simply scatter them so the Crusteroid can quickly rebuilt its body. Alloy Pikmin are also the best type to fight the creature with as their crushing immunity works wonders when the boss' most dangerous attack involves dropping its body on you, however their slow speed means the Crusteroid can easily grab them with their claws. Regardless the sheer height and surprising strength of the Skullshell Crusteroid makes it one of the most surprisingly deadly enemies in the game and shouldn't be taken lightly. When killed the large main body ruptures, revealing a piece of refuse that can be collected, a good enough reward for such a tough fight.
