The Open Woods is the first area that Maxwell and Olimar explore in Pikmin: Colorful Journey. It is an overgrown forest with many fallen trees and ponds. The first thing they encounter are the Yellow Pikmin and their Onion, and the first cave they find is the Forest Den, which houses shells. The Open Woods also holds the Underground Flower Bed, Dirt Cavern, Hole of Horror, Wooden Tunnels, and Rocky Cove. Many Red Bulborbs and Dwarf Red Bulborbs and some Skitter Leafs call Open Woods home.
Pikmin recommended for the area are Yellow Pikmin and Blue Pikmin, as Yellow Pikmin can reach some of the shells on the fallen logs and Blue Pikmin can take shortcuts in the water.
