The Fungal Bloyster is a species of Mollusking appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It is a bloyster that has formed a symbiotic relationship with mold produced by members of the sporovid family and as such shares the color scheme of one of their members, the Puffstool, having a red body and yellow bulb-like tail resembling a mushroom instead of the usual flower. This mold allows the bloyster to live outside of damp areas, allowing it to survive outside of aquatic habitates. Meanwhile the mold is able to take advantage of the bloyster's aquatic nature to gain a resistance to water rather than a weakness to it. The Fungal Bloyster dwells in dry areas, using its new fungal abilities to lob balls of spores out of its mouth which causes mold to grow and convert Pikmin into Puffmin upon breathing it in. The Puffmin will swarm the Fungal Bloyster and act as a barrier for the creature while the Bloyster just relaxs as the Puffmin gathers food for it. When attacked directly the Fungal Bloyster will attack with its tentacle-filled mouth to eat up to a dozen Pikmin and release a moldy green ink, poisoning anyone who breaths it in and leaving behind a residue of sticky mold as a result. The Fungal Bloyster will also scatter poison dust off of its tail when attacked, scattering the Pikmin even further, all the while the Puffmin will try to swarm and attack the captain. Due to the high amount of poison and spores involved Roach Pikmin are the best types to defeat the creature as their immunity to it will make the Fungal Bloyster just as threatening as the Toady Bloyster. However be careful as at half health the Fungal Bloyster gains the ability to roar, sending Pikmin into a panic and release a new purple ink which summons Puffmin without needing to convert normal Pikmin, making it more dangerous to a squad of Roach Pikmin. The Fungal Bloyster overall mixes the dangers of two disperate creatures and makes a unique threat to face. However the hybrid nature of the creature has given both creatures a new weakness, sheet cold. The fact that one creature is aquatic and one hydrophobic means freezing both together will cause both to become crippled due to coming into contact with the oppostie force. Using a cyan syrup, you can freeze the Fungal Bloyster and cause it to shrivel up to half its size, making it slower and weaker as well as make it lose its ability to summon spores and poison, only mold. Then wail on it with your strongest Pikmin before it eventually falls, helpless to do anything without its help from the mold. This leads to a cold and sudden separation for such an unlikely but beneficial enemy partnership.

The Fungal Bloyster is a species of mollusking in Pikmin: Other Frontier. They are recognizable for their pale orange-colored skin and brown, almost wilted-looking, gill bulb. It passively emits a cloud of orange vapor, signifying that it carries toxic matter. Fungal Bloysters attack in the same way as regular Toady Bloysters, by thrusting a multipronged tongue to ensnare Pikmin; however, they also secrete a moldy mucus that contaminates any moisture it touches and converts it to mold. This is best exemplified in the Rust Labyrinth, where a Fungal Bloyster's contaminated mucus causes the entrance to a cave to be blocked with toxic mold. This can happen in caves as well but in limited areas. As Fungal Bloysters regularly release mold in an unavoidable territory, only Cleaner Pikmin can defeat them.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This member of the mollusking family regularly ingests toxic matter so they can secret carcinogenic mucus from their bodies, giving them a natural territory and allowing for easy eating of prey.”
Louie's notes
- “As long as the bulb-like protrusion is fresh, it can make for a richly flavored meat roast for one, otherwise highly inedible.”
