The Xyynog Bulbzerg is a particularly dangerous grub-dog appearing in Pikmin: Revenge of the Darkfreeze. Its dwarf counterpart is the Dwarf Xyynog Bulbzerg. The Xyynog Bulbzerg has strange powers no natural creature does and is thought to be some sort of hybrid between a bulborb and another creature created by the Darkfreeze. It is a well-known insomniac and will spend much of its time staying in one spot, eccentrically looking around for easy prey such as dwarf bulborbs or Pikmin. Upon spotting one, a Xyynog Bulbzerg will immediately rush over to eat it. Any Pikmin that touches a Xyynog Bulbzerg will have its resistances temporarily purged from it. Upon shaking attackers off, a mysterious shadow will rush across the ground in all directions from a Xyynog Bulbzerg. Pikmin affected by this attack will freeze in place, put their hands to their head, and begin to struggle as if attempting to overcome a mental conflict, although Rock Pikmin, Bronze Pikmin, Silver Pikmin, and Gold Pikmin are immune to the shadow. Additionally, it can infect Pikmin with zershrooms.

The Xyynog Bulbzerg is a black bulborb with light blue spots on its rump and red eyes. The defining feature between all bulbzergs is the pair of muscular arms under their bodies. Each arm is black at the base and light blue at the hand.

It is not recommended to engage a Xyynog Bulbzerg in combat unless the Pikmin that are resistant to its attacks are accessible. Although Rock Pikmin can be eaten by the Xyynog Bulbzerg, feeding it Bronze Pikmin, Silver Pikmin, or Gold Pikmin will cause its teeth to break, and the creature to spit them out and be unable to eat Pikmin again. After this, Purple Pikmin, another Pikmin species effective because of their combat ability, can be used against the beast without fear of them being eaten. Upon reaching half-health, a Xyynog Bulbzerg will summon between two to four Dwarf Xyynog Bulborbs to assist it, although they are often of little threat and are easy to take out.
