The Trapmaw is an elusive, cave-exclusive creature in Pikmin Eco. Despite being radically different from most of its relatives, it is a species of grub-dog. It is a highly bulbous creature with four stubby legs, and a mouth making up over half of its body. As the name suggests, it is an ambush predator and remains buried underground with its mouth wide open like a trap. If something, such as a Pikmin, leader, or even a small enemy, is caught in the center of its mouth, it will tremble, and then after a second, clamp its mouth shut on anything that's still there. However, some treasures are found with the Trapmaw underneath them, yet they don't trigger its clamping response. Due to this nature, it is comparable to the Pearly Clamclamp.

Notes

In-game entry

The grub-dog family is highly adaptive, but this is the first species of its kind to be discovered. This curious creature is adapted to an underground lifestyle and remains buried underground for as long as five weeks at a time before moving on to new hunting grounds. It senses prey thanks to the touch-sensitive skin on its lips, though I can imagine it can sometimes bite prey much larger than itself.
