The Tarpit Long Legs appears in Pikmin IV. When Pikmin or leaders come near its hiding place, it will fall from the ceiling, splattering mud in its vicinity after it lands and whenever it takes a step. This mud immobilizes any Pikmin it lands on except Black Pikmin until they are whistled. No matter where the Tarpit Long Legs steps it will produce mud, even in places where there is none. After a set amount of time, the Tarpit Long Legs will exit its arena to pursue its prey.

The normal color of a Tarpit Long Legs' exoskeleton is a dark maroon color but will become dark brown when exposed to mud and black when exposed to tar. If it contacts water, the submerged portions of its body will revert to their normal colors, and the water surrounding them will become murky for a short time. Its legs are longer than most other arachnorbs.

Black Pikmin are most useful against a Tarpit Long Legs. They are able to climb up the creature's legs, taking off some of the gunk on its legs in the process. However, Winged Pikmin are useful as well, due to the arachnorb's height, but only if it is not covered in mud or tar. Otherwise, they will become stuck to the creature until whistled off. Some Tarpit Long Legs may wander into deep water, cleaning up some of its gunk and making it vulnerable to Blue Pikmin and Winged Pikmin.
