The Rad Sheargrub is a mandiblard that has been saturated in radiation. Radiation permeates its entire body, causing it to emit a sickly green glow. Just being within close proximity to the creature can be dangerous, as it can cause mutations in Pikmin and turn them against the leaders commanding them. Extended radiation exposure can eventually kill Pikmin and severely harm leaders, but Rad Pikmin are immune to its effects.
Physically, Rad Sheargrubs have a similar body shape to Female Sheargrubs and Swarming Sheargrubs but glow green as a result of radiation exposure. Its body is lime in color, and its eyes and mouth are yellow.
Rad Sheargrubs can only be safely fought using Rad Pikmin because only they cannot be harmed or turned by radiation. Leaders and other Pikmin types should always maintain a safe distance from a Rad Sheargrub. After death, a Rad Sheargrub's radioactive effects dissipate and the creature's coloration grows duller and darker, signifying that it is safe to walk near and be carried by all Pikmin types.
