The Mud-Belcher is a burrowing enemy appearing in Pikmin Z. It has a long, segmented body and resembles an oversized leech, complete with a circular mouth on the end of its body. As its name would suggest, the Mud-Belcher spews mud from its mouth, usually onto its prey to severely slow it before feeding on it. It is a subterranean hunter, similar to the Burrowing Snagret in some respects. It is first discovered on sublevel three of the Muddy Bog and appears on every subsequent sublevel, although it can't be properly attacked until it is encountered in the final sublevel. The Mud-Belcher occasionally launches itself out of the ground towards Pikmin and leaders, burrowing into the ground again moments after the attack. Its diet consists of small animals, and its predators are unknown.

The Mud-Belcher will be most aggressive on the final sublevel of the Muddy Bog, where it can be properly attacked. It will repeatedly launch itself out of the ground towards Pikmin and leaders, burrowing into the ground again regardless of if it misses or not to repeat the process. The creature will eventually momentarily stop to rest on the ground, where it can be attacked. After it has taken enough damage while resting, the Mud-Belcher will shake its attackers off and spew mud onto them before fleeing and continuing its assault. It will immediately target the mud-covered Pikmin, which can be whistled to so they may escape being eaten. Pikmin that are thrown onto the Mud-Belcher while it is airborne will not latch on to it and will instead harmlessly bounce off of it. It is possible to trick the Mud-Belcher into colliding with a hard surface such as rock, which will stun it and make it vulnerable. When the Mud-Belcher comes to, it will squirm away from the Pikmin attacking it and flee underground. Any Pikmin that are brought under the ground by the creature will perish.

Notes

Piklopedia entry

This is a fully subterranean creature, and possibly a descendent of the Sand-Belcher. When threatened, its main form of defense is to create a mixture within itself, possibly gathered while it is burrowing. The Mud-Belcher regurgitates this mixture onto its prey before devouring it.
