The Melty Bulblax is a larger bulblax that bathes in lava and secretes it as well. Due to this, they are vulnerable only to Crimson Pikmin and other Pikmin species that can resist lava. Other Pikmin that touch the creatures will be incinerated upon contact. Melty Bulblaxes sleep either on dry land or in shallow pools of lava, only awakening when touched or harmed. Upon being woken up, a Melty Bulblax proceeds to chase down and eat any Pikmin or leaders within a certain distance of its resting spot. If it doesn't see any, it proceeds to return to its initial location and its slumber.
Melty Bulblaxes bear a striking resemblance to Fiery Bulblaxes, having a similar body shape and features but differing in coloration and size. The face and legs of a Melty Bulblax are red and orange, and the creature overall has a melted, deformed appearance caused by prolonged exposure to excessive heat. Its backside is red, orange, and yellow, much like the hot lava it secretes. The eyes of a Melty Bulblax do not match in size but both are white with orange pupils.
Battles against Melty Bulblaxes can be difficult because they are always dripping with lava and because they are often surrounded by it. The recommended course of action against a Melty Bulblax would be to sneak up behind it whilst it sleeps, getting close to it before charging Crimson Pikmin at its rear. Rapidly throwing Pikmin onto it works just as well, although its larger size and health pool can make this method tricky. If a Melty Bulblax is awake and must be fought head-on, throwing Pikmin into its eyes causes it to flinch, buying precious time to take it down with no casualties. Every time a Melty Bulblax flinches or shakes Pikmin off, globs of lava fly off its body and onto the ground around it. They eventually cool and dissipate, however. Upon defeat, a Melty Bulblax cools off, forming a stone covering over the creature and allowing it to be carried to an Onion by any Pikmin type.
