The Leafcutter Sheargrub is an omnivorous mandiblard in Pikmin Z that is found only in the Painted Pines section of the Fleeting Forest. It is much the same as a typical Male Sheargrub, and about the same size as well, but with the exception of a brownish body, and a leaf-like body structure on its back evolved from wings as a camouflage much like a Skitter Leaf. Leafcutter Sheargrubs are typically found in groups, and when not much meat is around, will change their diet and feed on dead leaves instead. Unlike other sheargrubs, it doesn't burrow underground; instead, it lays dormant and camouflages itself as a leaf. They are relatively weak, so swarming or throwing a Pikmin on top of one is a surefire way to kill it. Its diet consists of leaves, skitterlings, and Pikmin, and is prey to all carnivores.

Notes

Piklopedia entry

The Leafcutter Sheargrub is an interesting bug. Evolving from the Shearwig, this sheargrub's life and strategy in hunting resembles that more of a skitterling than a sheargrub: lying in wait, disguised as a leaf until prey draws close, or staying still as a disguise to predators. A prime example of convergent evolution.
