The Caustic Gnashlot is one of the only acid-wielding enemies in Pikmin X: Deep Freeze and is fairly rare itself, only appearing once in the Petroleum Pipeline and thrice in the Crypt of Enigma. This bulborb-sized enemy lies flat on the ground until Pikmin approach, where it will give chase and try to eat them. Attacks on it from above are fruitless because it secretes a powerful acid from most of its body which kills Pikmin very quickly. They can be saved with a quick whistle, but the window of opportunity is very slim. Its underbelly is vulnerable to damage but is mostly unreliable because it requires maneuvering directly underneath the voracious creature. Fortunately, this acid is soluble in water, and all Caustic Gnashlots are located somewhat close to a body of water. Luring the creature into water will weaken its acidic defense as long as it remains submerged and allows Pikmin to attack it; Blue Pikmin are recommended because they cannot drown.
