Notes

Olimar's notes

A strange bulborb indeed! Never have I ever encountered another creature quite like this one of the grub-dog family, how strange...

Louie's cookbook

Separate the legs, head, and rump, preferably using a steak knife, then cook the legs and head in an oven at 510 degrees for about 5 minutes. The backsides fur could potentially be used as a garnish.

Ack! Bulborbs are hiding in the fauna! – The ship, upon discovering the Bulbush

The Bulbush is an enemy that appears in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Resembling most bulborbs, this grub-dog's hide is covered in a thick layer of green leaves. However, the color of the leaves may vary depending on the plant it resides in. Along with this, it has a light green backside and a peach snout with nostrils and two sharp teeth. The creature also has two bi-clawed feet and two eyestalks that hold eyes with blue pupils and white sclerae.

The Bulbush can be found resting in fauna. Due to its habitat, it cannot be seen at first glance. Once approached, however, the Bulbush will pop out of the fauna and catch the leaders and Pikmin off-guard. The Bulbush attacks like most bulborbs, eating Pikmin by snatching them up with their mouth. However, if attacked, the Bulbush will shake off all Pikmin. The back of the Bulbush can be hard to damage due to the amount of leaves located on it.

Attacking a Bulbush can be extremely difficult, mainly due to the small patch of leaves located on its back. The best way to defeat a Bulbush is by using fire starters to burn off the beast's leaves, allowing safe access to their back. Pikmin can pluck off the leaves themselves, but at a slower rate than fire starters would burn them. Attacking the eyestalks of the Bulbush will stun the beast.

In Overlord mode, the Bulbush can regrow its leaves after a short period of time.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Watch out for suspicious fauna... it may contain a Bulbush.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: The leaves of a Bulbush can nullify attacks. They can be burned, or plucked off by the Pikmin.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #3 (Overlord mode): Bulbushes will make sure their backsides are protected, even if that means regrowing their leaves!

Olimar's notes

This strange species of grub-dog seems to be a part of the Ambuloradicis class, for it grows a small patch of plants and moss on its back. These plants can help attract small animals, allowing for the Bulbush to have easy access to prey. The Bulbush mainly rests in large patches of flora, as to avoid larger predators from noticing them. Once they perish, they decompose and become a hearty compost for the ecosystem.

Louie’s notes

Once you roast the beast, its plants can be used as both a garnish and as a source of additional flavor while roasting.

President’s notes

These creatures become compost a little while after we take them out, huh? I can smell Pokos for days! Time to start a farming company...! I used to farm back in the day!

Overlord’s thoughts

Another plant-like animal? This little guy looks pretty. I wonder if it would hurt if I just plucked a few flowers from his back...

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Bulbush is like any other big bulborb but is distinguished by its primarily green coloration. Notably, the creature's backside is covered in moss, making it resemble a shrub from behind while lying down. This slippery moss covering causes Pikmin to have a poor grip on the Bulbush's back, and they will fall off more easily. Attacking the Bulbush's face and eyes is advised, but watch out for its mouth, as it is just as ravenous as any other bulborb.
