Scientific name Pikminidae volarosa
Family Pikmin

Winged Pikmin are a Pikmin species with the special ability of flight, allowing them to fly over obtrusions on the terrain, over water, or over pits. They are notable for their large blue eyes, dark pink stripes, and lavender petals, but most importantly their translucent wings. They are propagated mainly using their Onion, although Carnation Candypop Buds may be used as well. They are weaker than other Pikmin types in terms of attack power, although they are still very useful in aerial combat. While carrying an object, Winged Pikmin will fly considerably slowly with it through the air. If multiple types of Pikmin are carrying something that a Winged Pikmin is also carrying, the Winged Pikmin will carry it closer to the ground and will not fly with it. However, if the number of Winged Pikmin carrying is the number of Pikmin required to lift the object, they will lift it into the air, causing any ground-based Pikmin trying to carry the object to let go or to cling on for a few seconds before falling off. It's possible for a Winged Pikmin to walk on the ground like any other Pikmin outside of carrying, which may happen for a variety of reasons.

In Hey! Pikmin, Winged Pikmin behave similarly to Pikmin 3, but have the ability to carry Captain Olimar until he hits the ground if he falls from a certain distance, similar to gliding. While Olimar is being carried, he can descend faster, or perform a short hop to increase the amount of air time. Certain areas have a wind effect that pushes Olimar in the direction the wind is blowing.

Winged Pikmin, also known as Pink Pikmin, is a returning Pikmin type in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is a pink Pikmin with two big, round, bright blue eyes resembling googles, two insectoid wings on its back, and a darker stripe like a bee's around its midsection. They are smaller than even the White Pikmin, and their body shape is unlike that of other Pikmin types, having an oval-shaped head and plumper body. Winged Pikmin can fly, allowing them to easily pass over water bodies, pits, and other impediments other Pikmin can not, but have a poor attack power and digging speed. Additionally, while airborne, most crushing forces will simply knock them back and to the ground, where they are as vulnerable to dangers as any other Pikmin type. Because of this, they can easily wind up in water or down pits. Winged Pikmin will be knocked back if they are thrown into or try to pass through a net, making them the only Pikmin unable to pass through those. Additionally, Winged Pikmin can lift bamboo gates and uproot Flukeweeds. As they lack an Onion, Winged Pikmin are obtained exclusively from the subterranean Spinel Candypop Bud.

Winged Pikmin are the eighth species of Pikmin discovered in Pikmin Forever and the final species discovered in the main story. Winged Pikmin do not have an Onion; like White Pikmin and Purple Pikmin, they can only be obtained from candypop buds. Winged Pikmin can still fly over obstacles and pull up Flukeweeds, and they are still the best in airborne combat. They are a great advantage when used on paper towels; they can lift a paper towel from the stack to carry other Pikmin across obstacles like water and pollution. One Winged Pikmin can carry one non-Winged Pikmin, meaning a maximum of fifty non-Winged Pikmin can be carried. Leaders can not be carried, however. Winged Pikmin can be ordered to carry a paper towel anywhere, or even to follow a leader, but once Winged Pikmin are ordered to drop the paper towel, it tears and disintegrates.

Winged Pikmin are the last Pikmin type discovered in Pikmin V, being found in the Frost Terrace, and have been almost completely overhauled. They move faster when traveling and carrying objects normally, but if a group of Winged Pikmin has lifted an object into the air, their carrying speed is halved; this is usually made up for by their access to airborne shortcuts, unlike their Pikmin 4 behavior. They lift objects from the bottom like other types rather than the top, so they cannot stack with or steal objects from land-faring Pikmin or lift partially submerged objects. Airlifting an object being carried by other Pikmin will also immediately cancel those Pikmin's carrying contributions while they dangle and fall off. In combat, a Winged Pikmin is slightly stronger than in Pikmin 3, but it comes at a cost: when thrown, it will steady itself in the air at the apex of its throw before rushing its target, making it incapable of scoring direct hits. This does give it the benefit of being able to be thrown at high objects or those over an abyss to direct it to them even though they are out of reach. The Winged Candypop Bud is given the name of Cherry Candypop Bud.

Here are the Winged Pikmin. It seems you have encountered them before. They have wings, which allow them to fly! I can already see all the treasures we can access now. Helps us get off this deranged planet easier... Now make haste! – The ship, upon discovering the Winged Pikmin

Winged Pikmin are a returning type of Pikmin in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They are one of the first types to be discovered. Like most Pikmin types, the Winged Pikmin has a round head and body with two stubby legs and feet with three toes, along with two arms with hands that have four fingers. They have two eyes with blue sclerae, and a tall stem on the top of their head that can sprout into a leaf, bud, or purple flower. Their most notable features are their magenta body stripes, and the two white wings on its back that allow it to fly. The voice of a Winged Pikmin is much more high-pitched and feminine. They have their own Onion, the Winged Onion, which can be merged into the Master Onion. To create more Winged Pikmin without an Onion, throw other Pikmin types into a Winged Candypop Bud.

The Winged Pikmin are able to fly above Pikmin and their leaders but will stick with the group. Due to their flight capabilities, they have a variety of abilities at their disposal. Winged Pikmin are much more effective in aerial combat, meaning flying enemies such as scarpanids are more vulnerable to this type. Enemies that have higher-to-reach weakpoints like snavians and arachnorbs are also vulnerable to Winged Pikmin. These Pikmin can also fly to higher locations to collect objects. They can carry any object high enough to where grounded enemies cannot attack them. However, tall enemies like the Burrowing Snagret, or aerial enemies like the Shearwig, can still eat them if in range. If grounded Pikmin are carrying an object with Winged Pikmin carrying as well, then the object will either remain on the ground or be lifted into the air depending on the superior Pikmin amount. In the case of more Winged Pikmin, the object will be lifted into the air, and all grounded Pikmin still hanging on will let go and fall to the ground. Carrying objects through the air means Winged Pikmin can take shortcuts over hazards like pools of lava, water, and acid, along with bottomless pits. This also makes them susceptible to hazards that utilize the air, like bubble blowers that can trap Winged Pikmin with Bubbles. Spider webs from Arachnodes are also a very common threat, as they frequently block paths that Winged Pikmin carry treasures through. If Pikmin are stuck in a hazard like tar, water, or acid, then Winged Pikmin can fly over to them and pull them out of it. Despite all of these abilities, Winged Pikmin are susceptible to all elemental hazard types and projectiles if they are touched by them. They are also susceptible to high wind speeds, meaning if the weather is very windy, then Winged Pikmin can be much slower and less agile. They're even blown away a lot easier by wind enemies like the Puffy Blowhog.

In Overlord mode, Winged Pikmin are slower in saving Pikmin from hazards.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Winged Pikmin can fly over pools of hazards and enemies.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #2: Flying enemies or tall enemies troubling you? Winged Pikmin can easily defeat them!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #3: Any Pikmin suffering in a pool of a hazard can be rescued by Winged Pikmin.
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #4: Arachnodes are the bane of Winged Pikmin!
  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #5: Winged Pikmin are weak in strength, and have no true hazard immunity.

Olimar's notes

Winged Pikmin, like most Pikmin, come from the Ambuloradicis class, which are creatures that exhibit plant-like characteristics. We're unsure if the wings on this Pikmin species were developed naturally or not. But assuming the oddity of Rock Pikmin, perhaps some fusion or merger of a winged mothership of sorts with an Onion formed these creatures. If so, then the Onion would've transmitted these attributes to these pink Pikmin species. It makes me wonder... perhaps there are other types of Master Onions out there. Although we have a lot of Pikmin types at the moment, maybe there's one with hundreds of species... and we don't even know.

Louie's notes

They can fly up to grab apples from trees. So in return, I won't eat them... yet.

President’s notes

Why use a boat to transport cargo when these guys can do it naturally? Can I employ Pikmin as workers? Does that violate KOSHA guidelines? Probably not!

Overlord’s thoughts

I can fly too like these guys, just with no wings. How do I do it? A guardian never reveals his secrets. Unlike Winged Pikmin, however, I don't get trapped in giant spider webs. Except for that one time...

When carrying objects across gaps, often any other Pikmin carrying it with the Winged Pikmin dangle and may fall. When they do, one of the Winged Pikmin will fly down and grab the Pikmin, visibly struggling with Purple Pikmin and Rock Pikmin but succeeding regardless, and bring them to solid ground.

Winged Pikmin appear in Pikmin: Treasure Colonization and are the ninth species to be discovered. They have an indigo flower. They are able to avoid many hazards despite not having an immunity to any of them. Being on the ground will make them vulnerable to attacks from the ground and to blunt force. They'll normally fly above water, however, they can still be knocked into it and drown. Because Winged Pikmin can fly, they are extremely useful for carrying objects, and if a Pikmin is falling to its doom, into a pit, a Winged Pikmin can be commanded to save that Pikmin. Additionally, they can pluck drowning Pikmin out of a body of water and bring them to dry land. The body length of a Winged Pikmin is twenty millimeters, and its carrying capacity is four while under the effects of an ultra-sour spray.

Notes

Olimar's notes

I'm still researching why these Pikmin evolved to develop wings while becoming weaker. A theory in the community is that they have a bee-like hierarchy. This could also explain the markings on their body.

Tang's notes

A weak Pikmin species, however, their saving grace is the air! With such wings and dedication, they are more easily able to attack enemies that have taken flight.

Robin's notes

Efficiency at its finest! These Pikmin can traverse many areas with no problem. Just keep them to work on the longer tasks and to fight airborne enemies and we'll be solid!

Winged Pikmin are the final main Pikmin species found in Pikmin: Wide World, in Sprawling Swamp. They have no resistance to any hazard and are particularly vulnerable to wind. To compensate, they can avoid most dangers, including smaller or shorter enemies, simply by flying over or around them. Winged Pikmin have below-average attack power with a faster attack rate, and high mobility, average throw distance, and below-average digging speed. A Winged Pikmin's defining features are its small, striped body, relatively large, round head, large blue eyes, transparent wings, and indigo petals. The voice of a Winged Pikmin is much higher and feminine than that of other Pikmin. Although Winged Pikmin have their respective Onion, which can not be freed until the Hydroe Host is defeated, they can also be propagated by throwing other Pikmin into a Carnation Candypop. Until their Onion is rescued, Winged Pikmin can be stored in the PikHold. They are one of the two fastest Pikmin types, the other being White Pikmin, although they carry objects slower than they usually move.

Winged Pikmin prefer to be airborne and will always be so unless they are knocked to the ground, helping grounded Pikmin carry an object, or working on clearing most types of obstacles. While on the ground, Winged Pikmin are as vulnerable as any other Pikmin type. When enough Winged Pikmin are carrying an object to be able to lift it themselves, the Winged Pikmin will take to the air and carry the object themselves, leaving any grounded Pikmin stranded below. While Winged Pikmin can fly over most dangers, they may not be able to dodge anything coming down on top of them. Additionally, Winged Pikmin may desert a group they are part of to rescue any nearby Pikmin or leaders that fall into a pit. Winged Pikmin may also rescue nearby inapt Pikmin that find themselves in a pool of water or acid, although Blue Pikmin and Green Pikmin are more effective at doing so.

Notes

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png Uniquely from all other pikmin species, the winged pikmin is capable of flight through a pair of... well, wings, located on its back. It is not strong enough to fly higher than a moderate distance above the ground, but the altitude is sufficient to survive.
