Unmarked Spectralids are insects that resemble small butterflies that are colored either red, yellow, or purple. They are harmless enemies, having absolutely no means of attack, and do nothing but flutter around. They are located in specific patches of plants and appear upon being disturbed, though in some caves they are readily visible. Their color indicates what they drop when killed, being either a drop of ultra-spicy spray (red), ultra-bitter spray (purple) or nectar (yellow). Underground, they can have less of a chance to drop these contents. These creatures are so delicate that, if touched by a single Pikmin, they will instantly collapse and die. Upon being petrified, they will fall down to the ground and crumble.
Red and purple Spectralids rarely appear aboveground, and can be found more commonly along with yellow Spectralids in certain caves, usually found in clusters of twenty or more.

Like flower petals drifting in the breeze, the sight of flitterbies dancing in the lush green undergrowth is unforgettable. Flitterbie collectors drool over specimen sample boxes lined up in order, highlighting the slight color gradation changes from blue to red to yellow. Such items fetch particularly high prices at auction."

There are black and orange colors, as well as green and blue variants. Black ones drop ultra-poison spray, orange ones drop Pikmin Essence, green ones drop ultra-sour spray, and blue ones drop Growth Hormone.
