Steven is the main playable character throughout the Pikmin Eco games, being the only main playable character in the first. He is one of the many employees working under E.C.O.. In the first game, he's mainly a basic "field man" for the observatory, but he gains a promotion and becomes an alpha biologist by Pikmin Eco 2.
As the games progress, Steven starts off less knowledgeable of the outside world, being more "book-smart" as described by Maple. However, over time he becomes more experienced. He's dedicated to the jobs he receives, but he also has some free will when it comes to what is right, as shown in the true ending of the first game when he leaves the Oozore alone rather than complete his mission.
