Family Meerslug

The Sandbelching Meerslug is a light brown eel-like creature resembling a lamprey. Upon attempting to dig up an object, such as the Folded Data Glutton, buried in its arena, the meerslug appears from beneath the sand, eats the object, and begins to attack the leaders and the Pikmin there. It quickly tunnels under the sand to pursue them, and although it does not show itself while on the move, the sand above it bulges upward, indicating its location. It will then follow up by emerging from the sand, where it will spit sand balls and at the same time be left vulnerable, or burrow deeper into the sand and create a sinkhole to bring Pikmin and leaders down to its mouth, where they are eaten at a considerable rate. Its few basic attacks can be executed in several ways, and become more dangerous as the creature's health dwindles: it may spit arcing sand boulders that, depending on size and frequency, can bury many Pikmin; at about half-health, it may spiral around the arena, and turn the whole location into a sinkhole; lastly, below half-health, it may abruptly come to a stop and create a sinkhole so steep that it is impossible to escape from. Pikmin that are buried by the creature's sand boulders can be eaten by it, and bomb rocks held by a Pikmin that is buried will instantly detonate. Leaders that are bitten by the Sandbelching Meerslug will suffer heavy damage. When damaged sufficiently or fed a bomb rock, the meerslug will be forced from the ground and lay still, stunned; after some moments, it burrows back into the ground and resumes its assault.

Dr. Bruce is the Sandbelching Meerslug that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. Dr. Bruce is the tyrant of the Wintry Warzone, known by his tyrant name "The Mad Bomber" prior to being Awakened. Dr. Bruce's ability to spew all manner of explosives from his mouth makes him a very dangerous creature, and his placing of explosives everywhere is in fact the reason why the Wintry Warzone is as dangerous as it is.

Once Dr. Bruce is Awakened, he is able to create bomb rocks and other explosives from raw material, providing a variety of these resources to the Diamond Settlement's residents. With the help of other residents, he can imbue hazards into his explosives as well, allowing him to create items like the ice blast.

Dr. Bruce's name references the Italian name of the enemy, "Bruciadeserti", as well as the fact that Dr. Bruce is a recognized scientist.
