The Salty Sheargrub is an enemy in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They resemble a small, pure-white grub. They have two dark blue eyes and a set of pincers on the front of their body. From a distance, the sheargrub resembles a chunk of salt.
The Salty Sheargrub can be found underground or near the shores of pools. When their territory is approached, they will dig out of the ground. Afterward, the sheargrub will begin to wander around its territory. Although they may be harmless, their salty nature can cause Pikmin to go into a panic whenever they try to attack them. They will burrow back into the ground once Pikmin are out of their territory.
The Salty Sheargrub is harmless, but an extreme nuisance. They cannot be harmed by most Pikmin types due to their panic-inducing salt. However, Echo Pikmin can attack them, as they are immune to panic and frenzy. The Sheargrub can also be lead into liquid hazards like water or lava, where they will perish.
In Overlord mode, the Salty Sheargrub appears in larger groups.

- “The Salty Sheargrub is constantly covered in a natural composition of sodium chloride, which it constantly emits due to the minerals it absorbs from the soil. It’s mainly a composition of minerals they do not use for consumption or development. However, this salt composition can induce panic in some creatures that inhale it, making it particularly dangerous.”
