Scientific name Lapis regrettabilis
Family Snareshell

The Pearly Clamclamp is a large bivalve that has a pinkish shell, and inside, a small pearl surrounded by a clear blue membrane. This pearl can be attacked by Pikmin. The enemy's only defense is stretching its mouth wide open, creaking like a poorly-oiled hinge, and then chomping down on and eating any Pikmin inside. When its health is depleted, the pearl will fall out and can be carried. However, the enemy cannot truly die and will continue to attack even after its pearl has been removed.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

Pearly Clamclamps appear in Pikmin Forever. While always appearing around or in water bodies, their exact positions are not constant from a day to day basis. After dislodging a pearl, the clamclamp will not produce another until between five and six days later; it will remain without a pearl until that time. It can not be defeated by bomb rocks, as when it senses an active bomb rock nearby it will close its shell and, if the bomb rock is inside it, the bomb rock will deactivate and rest on the clamclamp's tongue.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Brackish water flowing in from estuaries or other naturally occurring filters will most likely contain one or a group of these elusive bivalves. The clamclamp's mantle only ever forms the top half of its shell; the bottom half shelters a tongue that, when the shell is shut, dissolves nutrients and absorbs them into an inner digestive system. Thus, the lustrous pearl can only ever form when an irritant is covered in the nacreous layers of the top shell, making this clamclamp half as likely to produce a pearl as its deep-sea counterpart. Once a pearl is a sufficient burden on the top shell's hinging action, the Pearly Clamclamp will dislodge the pearl with acids from its stomach. The pearl rests safely on the creature's tongue, acting as both a prey motion detector and an aid to breaking down food. No other member of the mollusking family appears to make use of its natural by-products so efficiently.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Pearly Clamclamp is a returning enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature retains its design throughout the Pikmin games and can have either a pearl or some form of treasure on its tongue. Pikmin must attack the object resting on its tongue to be able to get it. However, once a Pikmin stands on the tongue, the mouth of the Clamclamp will slowly open further, and after a few seconds, viciously snap shut. The Clamclamp can eat up to twenty Pikmin with a single bite. If whistled away in time, the attack can be avoided, and the process can be repeated until the beast releases its treasure. Once it does release a treasure or pearl, it will continue its normal behavior, as it cannot die from any hazard or Pikmin type. The pearl can be collected for a hearty amount of seeds.
