The Needle Spectralid is a butterfly-like creature in Pikmin Eco, and only known aggressive Spectralid found in the game, and second all together after its relative, the Electric Spectralid. They have black skin with a white spot on their stomachs, and highly detailed eye markings along their wings; a set of eyes on the upper, and lower wing, with yellow markings along the upper wings. They also have a long needle-like proboscis, hence their name.

Compared to other Spectralids, it is highly Aggressive and predatory in nature. They flutter around similarly to other Flitterbie and Flutterbie species, but when a small prey item comes close they will aim and fly down at them, attempting to stab their prey and carry them around for a bit before swallowing them.

Notes

• The markings on the wings of the Needle Spectralid acts as a intimidation tactic against larger predators, making it appear more dangerous than it really is. Rather than nectar, it actively hunts small prey items from the air, snatching them off the ground with its long needle-like mouth, making it a predator in its own right. I only can fathom that it evolved this way to avoid competition with other members of its species for food.
