Lichen Pikmin, also known as Black Pikmin or Lich Pikmin, are a species of Pikmin appearing in Pikmin 2... Again?. Infected by the Gloomshroom, they have become black and developed glowing, cyan eyes with pinprick pupils, their overall form vaguely resembling that of White Pikmin. As they move, Lichen Pikmin leaves behind wither powder that floats to the ground, although the powder has no impact on anything that may touch it. The Lichen Pikmin are only obtained from the subterranean Ink Candypop Buds. The Lichen Pikmin have a below-average digging speed and low throw distance. At the leaf stage, their attack power is also poor, but as they mature, Lichen Pikmin will inflict more damage, on par with Red Pikmin at flower maturity and Purple Pikmin when given ultra-spicy spray. Lichen Pikmin are most useful because of their resistance to wither, as indicated by the powder that drops off them as they move, and because they are unseen in the shadows, able to evade the sight of predators when carrying an object in it. To compensate, the Lichen Pikmin die to hazards faster than most Pikmin types.
The Lichen Pikmin were formerly known as "Dark Pikmin", but were renamed after the introduction of the Dart Pikmin due to their close similarity in name. A similar case happened with the Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot.
The Lichen Pikmin were, alongside wither, heavily inspired by the Black Pikmin and ghost tar respectively made by Toonmnoh on YouTube (video link).

Despite their name, they have nothing to do with lichen. Anyways, Lichen Pikmin are resistant to wither, a mysterious gray gas that has a horrible effect on Pikmin, and can hide in the shadows unseen. I still can't understand why Louie continues to try to eat wither creatures even if he said many times they taste bad.”

Lichen Pikmin are the seventh type of Pikmin discovered in Pikmin Forever. They are found close to the chosen landing site of whichever area is visited the day after collecting the Hocotate ship's radar. They are smaller but proportionally taller than the average Pikmin, and they are completely covered in an extremely soft green moss-like fur; Captain Olimar wonders if Lichen Pikmin are simply made of lichen without any skeletal support. Lichen Pikmin have a Lichen Onion and their identifying color is green. They have three maturity stages, reflected in the size and color saturation of their lichen tops: "leaf" is the smallest and least saturated, and "flower" is the largest and most orange.
Lichen Pikmin are extremophiles; they can survive in intense conditions. They are the only type of Pikmin immune to pollutants, a hazard that can not be removed, and only Lichen Pikmin can carry ice. They can slowly float across water bodies they enter, and if they enter murky water, they will clear up a small radius around them. Their attack is weaker than most types, but they attack the fastest of all types of Pikmin. Their attacks can also slowly break down mossy rock or ice, thus making them necessary for obstacles such as the cobblestone wall or Frostilume. They are convenient for reinforced walls when bomb rocks are not present, but it takes even one hundred Lichen Pikmin a while to break reinforced walls down.
