Notes

Olimar's observations

These strange crustaceans live in burrows they dig underground. They particularly like aquatic habitats, like quite a few creatures on this planet. The way they draw Pikmin one at a time into their hole is quite unsettling. I can't imagine what happens to pikmin it grabs.

Cookin' with Louie

Seafood like this is hard to beat. With meat like this, the more seasoning, the better! Don't stop, just cover it! Endless flavor!

The Hermit Crawmad is a crustacean that appears in numerous areas throughout Pikmin Eco. Their behavior mirrors that of Pikmin 3: they are found in shallow holes often by a body of water. They remain stationary in these holes until a leader or their Pikmin wander too close, to which they will emerge, and after a while, lunge out and attempt to catch its prey. If successful it will drag them back to its den to eat. Unlike any other enemy, there are two different types of Hermit Crawmad found; those found in Shimmering Seaside are twice as big as those found in Bounty Canopy or anywhere else.

Notes

In-game entry

It's highly interesting how much of a size difference there is between saltwater crawmads and freshwater crawmads. Those found along the coastline are fairly large in stature as forest-dwelling specimens are half the size. It is suggested that this results from the cramped conditions within the forest as opposed to the open sea. If this is correct, then it would also explain other variations of size between other species found in the ecosystem.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, the Hermit Crawmad acts identical to its Pikmin 3 incarnation. Some Hermit Crawmads can be encountered nesting within the holes that allow for further exploration in caves and must be defeated or tricked into lunging before the hole can be entered.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This crustacean is capable of living in fresh, brackish, and salt water. It is incredibly versatile and preys on creatures that dare linger near its burrow. Notably, this solitary creature descended from the lineage of hermit crabs, and relies on a den rather than a shell for protection of its fleshy underside.

Louie's notes

Suprisingly goes very well with chocolate, having some warm milk chocolate on standby for dipping this creature's meat in as you eat it is practically a necessity.

Ship's comments

When I look at him, I see an honest ol' farmer. The only issue is that he isn't honest, and the crops he eats aren't his. In a way, it also seems as if he's trying to drive us off of his lawn, which... is fair. However, we have a job to do as well, and we have nary a concern on how other people are affected... or at least that's my outlook on business.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Strangely, this is the only creature that varies in size wherever I go. Other creatures appear to be exact copies of each other and are never different. Even then, the Hermit Crawmads are exact copies of each other, just in a different size. Just so peculiar!
