Attacks Buries Pikmin

The Harvester Mamuta is a shepik appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It roams parts of a location accessible to it, preferring to navigate dry land than water but may wade through shallow water if necessary and able. A Harvester Mamuta will stop only to pluck Pikmin sprouts it comes across, gather any idle Pikmin that are unattended to, or linger by candypops or an Onion for some time to help pluck Pikmin they may eject. Pikmin it plucks or gathers will follow behind it unless there is a leader nearby to join. It will greet Pikmin and leaders it passes with a wave and a friendly hum. Harvester Mamutas will defend their Pikmin with their own life should they be threatened, and personally assist leaders in fighting other enemies unless they are fellow mamutas, in which case they will assist them. Pikmin following a Harvester Mamuta can be freely whistled by a leader at any time, and it will see them off with a wave. Even when idle, Pikmin will never attack a Harvester Mamuta, unless made to. At sunset, all Harvester Mamutas with Pikmin will bring them to the day's landing site so they won't be stranded on the surface. In an interaction seen only in Bottomless Abyss, a Harvester Mamuta that is attacked by Mushroom Pikmin or Alien Pikmin will pound them into the ground at their current maturity no matter if it is soft or hard, and will refuse to pluck their sprouts, showing visible fear when looking at them. Also in Bottomless Abyss, Harvester Mamutas will also wave to Mamutas, but not Trampling Mamutas, it passes, and do not elicit anger in Mamutas by plucking Pikmin they buried.

The Harvester Mamuta is a smaller shepik with an asymmetrical body covered in soft indigo hair that gets darker and shorter toward its lower body. Its only visible facial feature is a pair of circular, innocent-looking green eyes on its front. Its shoulders are two different sizes, but both arms are long and have fleshy pincers at the end. What appears to be the pattern around an Onion's equator is displayed on its wrists, but rather extravagantly as they shine under light. On the underside of the Mamuta are clawed feet.

Because of their peaceful and helpful nature and there seldom being a reason to kill them, it's better to keep Harvester Mamutas around. The only inconvenience they pose is wandering with Pikmin they plucked or gathered, but even then, they relinquish their Pikmin without issue. Additionally, they will deliver Pikmin they have to the landing site at sunset, and assist nearby leaders in combat against non-shepiks. If threatened, it will defend itself by smashing attacking Pikmin and leaders into the ground and can do so from the front or sides, or even both simultaneously. On soft terrain, this merely buries Pikmin fully or leaders partially, but on hard terrain this can crush Pikmin and seriously injure leaders. Harvester Mamutas are careful about not killing Pikmin, however, and will thoughtfully but forcibly sweep them out of the way before pummeling leaders. Mamutas are also careful to not attack Pikmin not actively attacking it. Attacking from the front or back is equally effective. When charged with Pikmin from the front, a Harvester Mamuta will hold its arms up and whimper, perhaps in surprise or horror. Upon death, a Harvester Mamuta will tip back forward and back briefly before falling backward and curling its arms under itself, forming a circular shape.

Harvester Mamutas are one of the few enemies to not have any behaviors exclusive to ultra-spicy difficulty.

Olimar's comments

PWW Captain Olimar icon.png This remarkably endearing creature rounds up stray pikmin and travels with them like a shepherd with his flock, also guiding them to safety. It gestures in a friendly manner to other caretakers of pikmin, and attacks any other lifeforms that want to hurt them.

Shacho's comments

PWW President icon.png Now this is what people want to see! A happy worker pulling up produce and carrying it around until someone takes it off their hands. Sadly, I can only imagine them working the fields of pikpik carrot farms...

Marie's comments

PWW Marie icon.png Harvester mamutas are honestly one of the most adorable animals I've ever seen. They have a wild appearance, but a heart of gold. They could easily make for great role models!

Louie's comments

PWW Louie icon.png The creature's meat has a particularly floral taste almost like how perfume smells. I'm going to be sick...

Dolphin Lander's comments

PWW Dolphin Lander icon.png It's not often that we find a creature like this on this planet. Maybe if we keep them around, other animals will follow suit, and PNF-404 wouldn't be so dangerous.
