The Harlequin Festool is a large sporovid that appears in Pikmin: New Frontiers. It resembles Clathrus archeri fungi. It is a boss in the cave, Jester’s Nest.

It begins the battle on the ground, before hopping up on one of the many wooden block pillars in its arena. It jumps around from pillar to pillar, and is unreachable by any Pikmin type. If Pikmin are at the base of a pillar it’s standing on, it will release spores that will turn them into Mushroom Pikmin. While it’s on a pillar and has Mushroom Pikmin under its control, they will gather beneath it and attack any Pikmin or leader that gets too close. The pillars it stands on can be charged by Pikmin to knock it off, at which point it will land on its head and be vulnerable to attack. Additionally, Mushroom Pikmin will scatter around aimlessly, and in this state, they won’t attack and can be whistled at to return them to normal. After a few moments, the Harlequin Festool will get up and jump back onto the pillars. The cycle of attack must be repeated until it’s defeated.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This Ambulofungus’ legs and motor skills are extremely well developed with an acute sense of balance, unlike its relative, the Puffstool. It leaps high into the air to evade threats, then scatters spores beneath itself to defend against its natural enemies, the Pikmin. These spores will attach to the stalks of Pikmin, causing mushrooms to grow in place of their leaves and flowers. This also causes them to fall under the control of the Harlequin Festool.

Louie's notes

If you can get past the putrid stench of rotting meat emanating from its cap, you will be rewarded with a truly unique flavor. For the less adventurous, the stem is also edible and significantly less pungent, but nearly flavorless.
