The Ghoulstool is a species of sporovid appearing in Pikmin Rebirth. They can be identified by their olive-green cap and a texture resembling heavy rot. They are one of the subterranean variety, living deep inside underground cavern systems, particularly cold and damp caves. They are considered a parasite due to absorbing the nutrients of their surroundings, leaving only their spores. These spores however are different as rather than infect Pikmin they instead infect rotting matter such as corpses. These spores, while not dangerous on the surface, can cause damage to the Onion, if you take a corpse to the Onion rather than add a species number of seeds the corpse instead subtracts how much you would of gained in seeds. This can make them dangerous if you want to harvest some more troops, additionally be careful not to drink nectar as there is a chance that it could be infected with spores as well turning it into Fermented Nectar. If Pikmin drink this nectar they are then converted into hostile Puffmin who assist the Ghoulstool in fighting. So it is best to fight the Ghoulstool as soon as possible to minimize losses. Be careful as the Ghoulstool can still attack directly, specifcally it can create a special olive-green spore cloud that can decay Pikmin, unlike poison this will reduce them to one stage lower but will instantly kill them if their in the lead stage, so if your not paying attention this enemy could quickly kill you Pikmin if your not careful.

Notes

Magdalene's journal

It has come to my realization that the Pikmin have faced some terrible deaths, crushed, eaten, you name it, now I can chalk up de-aging to death to that list, makes me almost feel bad for them, but as I say to myself ends justify the means so maybe they can forgive me soon.

Azure's salvage logs

Grind the spores into a dust, the chemical properties allow the spores to degrade plantlife almost instantly, use with caution

The fungi's flesh has a deep and pungent aroma complimented by a strong flavor. It can be mixed with buttermilk to form a thick cheese with a distinct palate, only for the most durable of stomachs.

Ivy's biology logs

Like all animals, telomeres are the protein used to help us age, so harming those directly could give the most health risks. The Ghoulstool takes advatage of such a fact, using spores infused with malignant cellular makeup they infect the telomeres in most animals to wither them away and turn them into a nutritious paste for the sporovid to consume. While the spores are harmless to us due to our suits, they are especially effective on plants like the Pikmin, regardless the dangers presented with these spores mean they should be nominated for becoming a Grade III biohazard.

Indy's strategy guide

Eee gad, these creatures have learned to use gas in their offensive, what kinds of monster would allow such creatures to evolve such a weapon. The only way to stop the gas is too kill it at the source, quickly flank the sides before the fungi can spray its deadly concoction.
