This a theory made by me, Ragnorok X. Basically, Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 2 are two different time lines. In both time lines, pikmin started growing either stronger and slower or quicker and weaker. However, in the events of pikmin 2, these pikmin migrate underground and start dying out due to lack of things a pikmin need. So,they somehow "fuse" with candypop bulbs in order to survive. I'm not saying why as that is too specific. With these new purple and white pikmin, olimar manages to get through all the caves easily. However, in the other timeline, they don't migrate underground. The strong pikmin in pikmin 3 inherit the traits of a rock. The weak pikmin learn to fly so they can get over the river in their habitat. So, without new pikmin to help him through the caves, olimar ends up in bad situations, and loses louie at one point. He gets trapped by the mysterious organism as in the end of pikmin 3. This a theory made by me, Ragnorok X. Basically, Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 2 are two different time lines. In both time lines, pikmin started growing either stronger and slower or quicker and weaker.
