Scientific name Sus draconus
Family Blowhog

The Fiery Blowhog, as its name would imply, blows fire from its red-tipped trunk. When provoked by Pikmin, Fiery Blowhogs shoot fire at them, bucking them off in front of them prior to doing so if attacked beforehand.

In Hey! Pikmin, the Fiery Blowhog is much larger and serves as a boss. It can spew a jet of fire or volleys of fireballs from its trunk, from the safety of its high vantage point, from which it can not be reached, and can turn while doing so when its health gets low enough. It is very perceptive and will continually turn to face its attackers whenever they try to get around it. Whenever it prepares to spew a jet of fire, but not fireballs, it inhales so strongly that Pikmin and bomb rocks can become trapped in the resulting suction; although it can not eat Pikmin, it will become stunned by a bomb rock's explosion, throwing it back and opening it up to attack as its backside dangles off the platform. After recovering, it jumps back up to its original position, causing boulders to fall from above, before resuming its assault.

Fiery Blowhogs in Pikmin 251 behave as they did in Pikmin 2. However, it now wanders more. The fire it spews also kills Pikmin faster, as with all fire in this game.

Notes

Olimar's observations

The fiery blowhog isn't really what I would call dangerous. It breathes fire, but not much else. Really, I can just throw a couple Red Pikmin and let them take care of it. Still, I wouldn't let other pikmin types near it. It seems like fire is even more deadly to pikmin now than ever before!

Cookin' with Louie

If you like bacon, this heap of meat is just for you! It may taste a bit burnt, however.

The Fiery Blowhog is a species of Blowhog returning in Pikmin Eco, alongside the Watery Blowhog. Unlike its watery relative, this blowhog is more commonly found underground, in caves, rather than on the surface. The behavior of the Fiery Blowhog mirrors that in other previous games but with one extra feature: it will buck off Pikmin and shoot fire at them like normal, but if more than ten are on at a time it will buck more wildly and gallop around to make them get off of it. This is more frantic bucking and spreads out Pikmin much more widely. This trait is also shared with the Watery Blowhog.

Notes

In-game entry

This species of blowhog has become increasingly rare to find in modern times due to the increasing population of watery blowhogs. A possible explanation is the lack of complication it needs to breathe fire as opposed to shooting water. Some believe the warmer climate change might have something to do with it too. Regardless of the reasons, this species is currently endangered.

Attacks Burns Pikmin

Fiery Blowhogs return in Pikmin V, completely unchanged from prior incarnations. Brittany's notes on the creature make reference to abnormally large specimens that can appear in places with frequent fires.

Notes

Brittany's notes

The Fiery Blowhog possesses a highly-sealed sac filled with a chemical that combusts when exposed to air. It will expel this liquid from its nozzle-mouth in order to reduce its prey to ashes, a form that it can consume. Its stomach and body are specialized for gaining nutrition from these ashes, so in areas where fires are frequent, Fiery Blowhogs can become larger and more numerous, sometimes even reaching titanic proportions.

Olimar's notes

A classic trick to defeating these enemies is to throw a few Pikmin onto it to goad it into bucking and then charging in with the rest of your force. Alternatively, you can throw a couple of Red Pikmin on it and walk away, as breathing fire is its only attack, though watch for nearby hazards.

Louie's notes

Bacon is all the rage nowadays! The fireproof meat means it will never overcook, ensuring a tasty crunch that beats any Hocotate pig.

Ignacio is the Fiery Blowhog that appears in Pikmin: Antarctic Survival. He is the father of Ardió the Fiery Blowlet, and the brother of Rocío, the Watery Blowhog of the Otherworldly Woods. Ignacio is also one of the creatures who starts with the ability to craft fired clay bricks, and he is very helpful to find and Awaken for this reason.

Ignacio is cautious and protective of his son Ardió, as he constantly warns his son about the dangers of the Antarctic and teaches him how to stay safe in the area. This extreme caution is the reason for his son's paranoia, as his son believes that everything is out to hurt him. Ignacio normally never leaves his son alone in the Antarctic for a single moment, but the two of them were separated by the confusing effects of the Ruins of Awakening's tyrant, and as such are encountered separately.

Ignacio is very stern and strict toward his son, wanting to make sure that Ardió is always careful and follows everything his father asks of him so he doesn't get into danger.

Ignacio had a wife before the events of the game, another Fiery Blowhog named Calida, who was much braver and more adventurous than Ignacio. However, she was killed by a powerful creature from the Frozen Fen which attacked the Blowhog family shortly after Ardió was born. As a result, Ignacio was left to raise the young Blowlet on his own.

"Ignacio" is a name of Spanish origin that translates to "fiery one", hence it being used for the name of a Fiery Blowhog.

The Fiery Blowhog is a returning species of blowhog in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles its original variant throughout the Pikmin series, but the bottom half of its body is of a slightly reddish tint. Fiery Blowhogs will spit out fire at any nearby Pikmin, trying to light them ablaze and kill them. Rubber Pikmin can return the attack and do slight damage. The Fiery Blowhog has more health, and its defensive attack is performed much faster. In water, Fiery Blowhogs have significantly less health.

Notes

  • P3 Data file icon.png Data file #1: Fiery Blowhogs are much weaker when they reside themselves in bodies of water!

Olimar's notes

The Fiery Blowhog is a species of blowhog that uses volatile compounds in its snout to mix with the oxygen in this planet in order to create a deadly flame. Its internal organs are constantly heated in order to sustain bodily functions. If a blowhog were to enter a body of water, its bodily functions would be weakened significantly.

Louie's notes

This delicious beast is best seared at the highest temperatures in order to obtain every ounce of flavor.

President’s notes

A beast that breathes fire! This must be what the Hocotation legends of a fire-breathing dragon are talking about! I just expected it to be.. less lame.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, Fiery Blowhogs act largely the same as their Pikmin 3 incarnations. However, they can now shoot long-ranged fireballs if they are at a distance from the leaders and Pikmin, similar to the Fiery Blowlet.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This blowhog's "snout" is not actually a nasal cavity, but rather, it's the creature's mouth. From this mouth, it breathes phosphor that reacts with chemicals in the air in a rather dangerous way. The phosphor bursts into flames upon leaving the mouth. The blowhog's white skin functions as camouflage during the winter season in more temperate areas.

Louie's notes

Aside from spit-roasts, the Fiery Blowhog can be chopped into lunch meat, or roasted and glazed with nectar to create a show-stopping meal.

The Fiery Blowhog is a rare blowhog in Pikmin: Spider Attack. The Fiery Blowhog only appears twice in Birch Forest and once in Lava Base, and can't be found anywhere else in the story mode areas. The Fiery Blowhog is a much more common enemy in Challenge Mode. It appears four times in Blowhog Base, and three more times in Flaming Chamber. Swarm it with Red Pikmin, which are good to use since they are resistant to fire, and swarm it again after it bucks Pikmin off of itself.

Notes

Olimar's notes

The genetic divide in the blowhog family is rather strange, with air-based blowhogs varying in appearance, and land-based blowhogs of basically the same appearance. Now, what would happen if a super fiery blowhog gained the ability to fly?
