The Carnation Bulborb is a rather bizarre member of the grub-dog family encountered in Pikmin: Wide World. No dwarf variant of them is encountered, though they do resemble oversized, mutated Bulborb Larvae in both appearance and behavior. They can be found sleeping on dry land, away from other creatures. A Carnation Bulborb will wake up if it is touched, injured, or hears a sound loud enough to rouse it from its slumber, and it will pursue nearby Pikmin and leaders until they flee its territory. When that happens, the creature will attempt to return to a spot nearby its original resting position to return and its slumber.

Carnation Bulborbs are mainly pink in coloration, giving them their name. They are the size and shape of most other bulborbs, but lack legs and thus are forced to lurch along the ground to move. The face of a Carnation Bulborb is a much lighter hue of pink than its white-spotted backside. Unlike other grub-dogs, the eyes of the Carnation Bulborb are poorly developed, as its eyes are small, beady, and completely black in color. Carnation Bulborbs also lack teeth, but they have no problem swallowing Pikmin whole and biting leaders.

The optimal method of defeating a Carnation Bulborb is to charge Pikmin towards its backside while it is sleeping. Pikmin can also be thrown at its backside, but charging is much more effective. Attacking one from head-on can be difficult since its eyes are so small and cannot have Pikmin thrown onto them to irritate the creature. However, it moves quite slowly while awake, so attacking it should be no problem no matter the circumstance. Upon defeat, a Carnation Bulborb will drop HP Sparklium icon.png × 6. On the surface, the remains of a Carnation Bulborb can be brought to either the Dolphin Lander for P3 Poko icon.png × 6 or the Master Onion for eight Pikmin seeds. Underground, its corpse can be taken to the Lander Pod to either gain P3 Poko icon.png × 6 immediately or be stored for later to receive eight Pikmin seeds from the Master Onion, but only if the cave is exited using an escape geyser.

Notes

Olimar's notes

"The carnation bulborb stands out from its brethren in a few ways biologically. It has a charming and bright coloration, which makes it easy to see. Its skin is also surprisingly silky. Its eyes are small and underdeveloped, meaning it has poor eyesight. However, its eye size also prevents creatures such as Pikmin from specifically targetting them. The most striking feature, or lack thereof, of the carnation bulborb is its lack of legs. It must crawl along the ground to reach prey, where it will devour them whole with its big mouth. It is unfortunate that this species seems so rare, but maybe evolution may soon benefit this creature."

Shacho's notes

"What eye-catching creatures! I'm sure people on Hocotate will pay quite a bit to have a pelt of their own. It's pretty and pink, who wouldn't want one?"

Marie's notes

"Carnation bulborbs are totally adorable! They might seem all big, but they're softies and super lovable. I was so charmed by them when I first saw them. Carnation bulborbs make for low-maintenance pets, but they do love chomping things, even their owner's hands! Not hard, of course, but in the form of love nibbles. Just be ready to scold it if it can't help but get a little overzealous in returning affections."

Louie's notes

"The meat of this creature is sweet and flavorful on its own, so simply cooking the meat by itself will yield a filling meal."

Dolphin Lander's notes

"What a strange, cute, and unique bulborb! I just feel bad for them because of how they look, but they seem to be surviving well enough. Maybe we'll find other adorable creatures just like this one..."
