The Blubbug is a round insectoid creature that moves by spinning forward on its small brown legs. Blubbugs are generally docile, roaming a set area while ignoring leaders and Pikmin, but some will run towards those they see in an attempt to bounce them away with their thick layer of fat. Pikmin can be thrown at one to push it away, either for safety, or to place it somewhere where it can be jumped on top of to reach higher terrain.

The Bulbous Blubbug is a species of bloather in Pikmin: Dual Worlds that bounces essentially any object that isn't part of the environment around by either running up to the target, performing a small hop, and sliding across the icy ground towards its target or simply sliding into them at high speed while spinning and standing on the ends of its feet. If it falls from a high place it will merely continue sliding. While it can be killed, it's immune to damage everywhere but the head and can easily shake Pikmin off. In certain areas, many may endless appear, sliding along a path. In such instances, it can not be damaged, acting instead as an obstacle to avoid due to its high speed. When it appears in a standing position, it may act as a platform to walk over or as a way to bounce to higher elevations. It may be used to bounce other enemies off of ledges or into dangerous places, but this is risky due to the chance of the same happening to Pikmin or leaders. It may also be possible to use a Bulbous Blubbug to send Pikmin and leaders to specific places at high speeds but this would be very difficult. Luckily, any Pikmin knocked away in the same general area as others will always be knocked the same way. Pikmin that they land on top of will be stunned for a time.

The Blubbug is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It resembles its Hey! Pikmin incarnation. The Blubbug will strut around in a centralized area until approached by leaders or Pikmin, at which point it will run excitedly toward them. The Blubbug's immense fat will forcibly bounce them, small fruits, and ship parts away, worsened by the presence of hazards, enemies, or worst of all, pits in their habitats. The Blubbug can be pushed back by throwing Pikmin at it, causing it to roll backwards before reorienting itself. If pushed into certain divots in the ground, it will get stuck and could be used as if it were a Bouncy Mushroom, sending those that step on it to a predetermined location.

Notes

Olimar's notes

It is due to the thick saddle of blubber that this insect is capable of persevering in the winter months without entering a state of dormancy. The fat is thought to be a natural occurrence, despite the fact that they seldom eat, and have never been observed doing so. Beyond protection from the elements, the fat also allows for their mating rituals to take place. Blubbugs will attempt to knock each other off of whatever raised perch they find suitable for the match, with the one standing being allowed to mate with the female.

Louie's notes

Cure the meat in a sodium solution and apply to a water biscuit with apricot chutney. Their fat can also be rendered for soup stock.

Bentley's notes

The defensive incentive for this creature might be a sign of the impending mating season. Perhaps it sees us as mere tools to practice with in the same way a boxer sees a punching bag?

Eloise's notes

The impact doesn't hurt me. If anything, I like the feeling of this creature slamming itself into us. It feels comfy to the touch...
