A larger Squirdler that often rests partially above water due to its large size. It appears very similar to a very large Sputtlefish in body shape and coloration. It has 2 large tentacles with three leaflike grippers on the ends of each of its tentacles. It has a large flowerlike gill on the backside of its body, which rests underwater, and allows it to stay upright and lets it breathe. It has a large bulbous body that is translucent, and can change colors at will. Its attacks include grabbing pikmin and eating them, sliding its tentacles across the ground and pushing pikmin under the water, shooting ink blobs that confuse pikmin and restrict the vision of captains, and changing its color rapidly to hypnotize pikmin, and make them stand still. This creature can also do different things when fully submerged. It can still grab pikmin with its tentacles and shoot ink, but it shoots a large ink cloud instead. It can also still hypnotize pikmin, which makes them swim slowly towards the Sprakken, and it will then eat nearby hypnotized pikmin. It can also charge across the room while spinning its gills, then stopping for a bit to eat captured pikmin if it grabbed any. When submerged, its gills are its weak point, whereas above water it can be hit anywhere on its body.
This creature's scientific name is derived from coercive and virgultum, the latin word for shrub or thicket.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “You would think this larger species would have trouble supporting its large mass with photosynthesis, and you would be partially correct. It needs to hunt prey to eat, but it also retains specialized zooxanthellae. These specialized zooxanthellae have the ability to flash in rainbow colors and make patterns that enrapture creatures, including Pikmin, and make them much easier prey for this creature.”
Louie's notes
- “With the nutrition of a veggie and the taste of exotic seafood, even those on a diet can partake in this frilly feast. With the right presentation, your guests will be completely entranced, literally!”
Shacho's notes
- “If we manage to get a culture of these zooxanthellae, we could use them to make solar powered televisions for cheap, and sell them for a massive profit.”
