Arid Oasis is the second area in Pikmin: Wide World, preceded by Balmy Highlands. It is a beach dotted with litter, rocks, and small pools of slightly blue-green water, and bordered by the ocean on one side. On the opposite side of the shoreline is a weatherbeaten boardwalk that overlooks the sand and turns at a corner, extending into the water. It is possible to travel under the boardwalk, further in at some parts than others.

Arid Oasis' sweltering heat takes its toll on leaders and Pikmin, though Pikmin aren't affected by it as adversely as leaders are and Red Pikmin, alongside the area's native wildlife, are completely unaffected. Any breeze in the air picks up the relaxing ocean mist. Leaders can protect themselves from the heat by remaining within shade or water, which are abundant, or by equipping the Pocket Conditioner. The only time Arid Oasis is tolerable in terms of temperature is when there is cloud cover, but rain will cool the area further.

The major boss of Arid Oasis is the Colossal Cottonade.

Plot

Olimar and Shacho decide to land the Dolphin Lander in Arid Oasis, after noticing it during a discussion the night before. The pair explores a bit of the landscape with their Yellow Pikmin and can discover Blue Pikmin and their Onion just beyond the first den they can access. After doing so, the area opens up to the explorers, as Blue Pikmin can travel freely in water; this includes finding and facing off against the Colossal Cottonade. The night after defeating the creature, while in orbit around PNF-404, Olimar gazes out of the Dolphin Lander's window while considering how quickly the planet changes every time he visits it. He subconsciously gets chills when he sees Frigid Tundra, the next place to explore.
