The Gauze Bulborb is a species of grub-dog appearing in Pikmin Evolution. They are an albino species with a noticeably warty and tan hide. They dwell in deserts, where they sleep in the harsh sunlight during the day, acting like a typical bulborb, waking up and eating whatever crosses it. During the night, it will bathe itself in water and sleep underground until disturbed, upon which it will rise from the mud and try to bite its prey. What makes the Gauze Bulborb so dangerous is not its offenses, but its defenses; it only has two-thirds of the health of a standard Red Bulborb, but has a remarkable regenerative ability. It quickly recovers health during a battle and can shrug off the damage caused by minimal amounts of Pikmin. Even after being put down, they can still be dangerous as they eventually revive to cause further chaos. The only way to neutralize this ability is to poison it, such as by feeding it Germ Pikmin or the bulbs of a Pellet Patty, or coaxing it into diving face-first into a pool of acid. Afterward, they will permanently lose their healing ability, allowing for an easy kill and no fear of it reviving. Overall, the Gauze Bulborb is a very dangerous enemy, but exploiting its weakness makes it trivial.

Notes

Ivy’s journal

The Gauze Bulborb seems to possess an unnerving regenerative ability. Due to their constant hibernation in water and mushy skin, the animal's hide seems to contain large pockets of water which is used to nullify most attacks. However, if it eats something toxic, the material will shut down all regenerative procedures in its body. At this point, the grub-dog will most likely attempt to flee.

Leni's recipe book

To consume this animal, you must drain it of all water and dehydrate it. The Bulborb is best eaten as a form of meat ravioli; cut off small parts of the meat and fill it with any vegetable filling of choice. Seal up the filling and enjoy!

Marvin's strategy guide

This Bulborb seems to be able to regenerate from any attacks we throw at it. But it seems that feeding poison to this animal cancels out its abilities! Maybe if we feed Ivy to it, we can get an easier kill. (I hope she's not reading this.)
