Bulbrella
Enemy
Family Grub-dog

The Bulbrella is a species of grub-dog named after the umbrella-like membrane on its back. It was inspired by the Pikmin Short Movie Occupational Hazards, during a part in which a Red Bulborb imagined forming the spotted skin on its backside into an umbrella to save it from falling.

Below this point is where users place their version of the Bulbrella.

The Bulbrella is a unique breadbug appearing in Pikmin Eco. It looks like an ordinary Dwarf Red Bulborb except for its slanted pupils and a large umbrella-like membrane on its back. Unlike most other enemies, they initially appear by gradually floating to the ground before they try and eat nearby Pikmin. Upon landing, they behave like any other dwarf bulborb. It is possible to hit a Bulbrella while it's in the air, killing it instantly upon landing, though it can just as easily be defeated as any other dwarf bulborb if it's already on the ground.

Notes

In-game entry

At first, it was classified as its own species, but after further studies, it's revealed that this is actually a dwarf bulborb infected by a parasitic Pikmin, much like the Bulbmin we've studied before. However, it doesn't seem to be influenced by the Pikmin in any way, and instead actually aids from it since the Pikmin's flower membrane acts as a parachute. This must be a case of mutual protection between both creatures.

Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Bulbrella is a happy-looking bulborb in Pikmin: Scavenge that is constantly in flight. To defeat this creature, knock it from its flight and attack it on the ground. It will stay on the ground for six seconds before going into an attacking frenzy, and will then start to fly again. Repeat this process until the creature is defeated.

Bulbrellas sometimes appear in deserted boss arenas and near the area of their decomposed corpse.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A bulborb with a parasol-like membrane on its back. The stem of said umbrella is actually a core bone aligned with muscle. Muscular bulbrellas have a harder time taking flight and will sometimes rip their membranes. Though these can heal, they will always have an open spot on their back, which draws insects like fleas and ticks towards and into the bulbrella's flesh, sort of like a parasite. Membrane ripping usually happens when muscular bulbrellas show off their muscles in a mating dance to females. When this occurs, the bulbrella's family will isolate themselves from it, avoiding these parasites.

Louie's notes

The slime under the parasol membrane makes for a fast healing cream for burns. The meat is more airy and should be roasted over an open flame when the weather is humid, so no air is thin enough to pass through the meat.

Dell's observations

This seems like a normal bulborb's dream. Being able to fly and not take fall damage. I could imagine a bulborb falling to its death and wishing it were a bulbrella. Of course, these specimens must be glad they are what they are, always smiling with their eyes closed.
