Plot
Dell returns to PNF-404 in the S.S. Nexus, this time to find fruit and treasure, since he lost all of the fruit last time. Thankfully, he doesn't crash land this time and lands safely in the same impact site as last time, which was recently revealed to be a garbage can filled with earth. Dell branded the ship as his own since Drake recently retired. The Onion is nowhere to be found, but upon wandering the hills of rocks and mulch, Dell comes across something lying in the darker parts of the site, a... dog? A green one very much like one the Hocotation mailman mentioned in his new interview... Moss, was it? Dell was taken aback that a Giyan space dog was stranded on PNF-404, ready to help him. The following day, Dell lands with Moss in an area very similar to Sun-Speckled Terrace, though some things are different, much like the changes in areas in Pikmin 1 underwent in Pikmin 2. Dell can find the Yellow Onion and its respective Pikmin, as well as the Rock Onion once he has Blue Pikmin. There are no caves, but there are bosses that give important treasures and sometimes Flarlics upon their defeat. One such boss in Sun-Speckled Terrace is an Emperor Bulblax located dirt mound known as the Distant Summit. In the Blossoming Arcadia, it's the Pileated Snagret. As for Serene Shores, the 2 bosses are the Ranging Bloyster and Titan Aristocrab. Hero's Hideaway's is a Raging Long Legs and Armored Cannon Beetle. Areas
- Sun-Speckled Terrace: some paths are blocked and some man-made objects are replaced with challenging terrain. The Yellow Onion is near the north corner of the map, on top of a flower pot, and the Rock Onion is on a platform above the water.
- Blossoming Arcadia: there are more lakes with some small beaches and structures formed by tree trunks. A Blue Onion and another Yellow Onion are present in this area. A large cluster of tree roots is home to a Pileated Snagret.
- Serene Shores: there are a lot more grassy areas and more sand castles. The hardest Onion to get, the Winged Onion, lies here, on top of the tallest sand castle guarded by a Ranging Bloyster and its minions, the Dwarf Bloysters. Deep in the seas lies the only Ice Onion to be found. The Ice Pikmin have more attack power and are immune to water, unlike in the previous games.
- Hero's Hideaway: the door in the kitchen area is open, leading to a wooden back porch and some terrain up near the ceiling that practically requires Winged Pikmin to explore. The areas near the ceiling are the perfect home for a Raging Long Legs. The White Onion and another Blue Onion and Rock Onion are present here.
