As this species of insect has only recently been discovered, fully mature specimens have yet to be collected. No molting or metamorphosis has been observed during the observation period, making it unlikely that mature Whiskerpillars will be encountered anytime soon. Based on active predation by pikmin, it is believe that the whiskerpillar's place in the food chain has not changed over time.

The Ravenous Whiskerpillar is an item in Pikmin Kart that appears in item boxes commonly. When used, a Ravenous Whiskerpillar appear on the screen of another player who has an item. It will partially block their view, and will eat the item that they are holding, making it useless. It will eat items that have not stopped spinning yet, and if no kart has an item, than it will have no effect.

In Pikmin: Connection of the Worlds, the Ravenous Whiskerpillars are the same as always. However, a new subspecies is introduced; they are called Subterranean Whiskerpillars. They only appear in the Peaceful Well located within the Garden. Their appearance is different; they are colored blue and purple, instead of yellow and orange. They are slightly quicker than their overworld counterparts, and have slightly more health. Other than that, they are not really any different than the Ravenous Whiskerpillars are, so beating them should be no problem. It is said that these are actually Ravenous Whiskerpillars, just adapted to an underground environment.

Strange enough, it seems that these Whiskerpillars have a certain set of reflexes that make them twitch, even when they are dead. Perhaps they still have a ravenous appetite for berries, even when dead?
